7,500 Mile 1984 Pontiac Trans Am
Sometimes I marvel at low mileage performance cars that have less than 10k miles on them. While cars are meant to be driven, I like that some people save them for us to drive and enjoy sometimes 30 to 50 years later! This 1984 Pontiac Trans Am is located in Kittanning, Pennsylvania. It has had two owners from the same family and is said to have only 7,500 on the odometer since new. The Trans Am is listed here on eBay for a Buy It Now Price of $34,999 and there a 4 days remaining in the listing. The seller states that it is in amazing condition and is willing to accept offers.
This car was previously listed on Hemmings by a dealer but I am not sure if it was a no sale or is being flipped by a dealer. While not stated in the ad, the car appears to be equipped with the L69 305 cubic inch HO V8 engine. This engine produced 190 horsepower from the factory and was the top performance option in the Trans Am and Z28 for that year. This Trans Am is equipped with an automatic transmission as well as cold air induction. Most enthusiasts would probably prefer the 5 speed manual transmission mated with this engine.
The interior looks like new and the Trans Am is optioned with air conditioning, power windows and T-tops. The seller states that the car runs and drives great and comes with the original tires that were replaced recently for safety reasons. The Trans Am is black and gold with a tan interior. All desirable color combinations in fantastic condition. The dealer offers to accept trades and arrange shipping if needed.
Trans Am production reached 55,374 units. This car appears to have the W62 ground effects package that was introduced on the 1983 Pace Car models. This car was built on the 15th anniversary of the Trans Am model that was introduced in 1969. Pontiac celebrated this milestone with a 15th anniversary edition that was blue and white. I prefer the looks of this model.

Is it fast? Not really. Well, relatively for 1984. Is it sharp? Heck yes. I love all Trans Ams and I want it. Lucky for me I don’t have easy access to $35k.
I’d just be satisfied to drive it out of the garage, give it a dusting and just look at it.
Nice car, but they came with a 350. I worked for Pontiac at that time and I don’t remember a 305.
The Trans Am and Z28 both came with the 5.0 liter (I had one) in 1984. They were both originally offered with the LG4 in 1982; and the the LU9 “cross fire” injected motor. Next came the L69 (known as the High Output). For 1985 the port injected LB9 became optional – and these all displaced 5.0 liters. The 350 wasn’t introduced in the T/A until 1987.
Incorrect. I owned almost this exact same car, top of the line 1984, but in different colors about 20 years ago. The power and stated size are correct. There was not a 350.

Sorry Wayne, not sure what Pontiac dealer you worked for, but my 82 TA was a 305-crossfire injected engine!
Absolutely sharp, this machine will still turns heads today. The L69 V-8 was an excellent and reliable motor even if the 700R-4 tranny was a bit iffy reliability wise its a great buy.
It says 5.0 on the hood cowl. Definitely a 305
Love it love it love it. In 1983 I had a 79 camaro and by comparison these were spaceships
in that year if the car came with T-Tops it also came with 305 no T-Tops option for 350 this issue was fixed couple years later frame issue with the torque
The Good: T-Tops, Black & Gold “Smokey and the Bandit” Paint scheme, A/T. The Bad: T-Tops, Black & Gold “Smokey and the Bandit” Paint scheme, A/T. The Ugly: Only a 305, but can be bored and stroked to at least 350 and possibly 383, if you’re so inclined.
I don’t know if these has Throttle-Body-Injection (TBI) by 1984, or were still stuck with an electronic feedback carburetor, but I’m sure that an aftermarket induction system is available to wake up the intake, if desired. Headers and a dual exhaust will allow it to breathe better once the intake is unclogged. Heidt’s Performance has bolt-in kits for either a four-link rear end or a full IRS setup for these and their Camaro cousins, along with a replacement front subframe and subframe connectors, to stiffen and lighten the car, some thing that should be considered on any car with T-Tops. There was no 350 available for the Trans Am (or Camaro) in 1984, all you could get from GM was a 305. Now, here’s where it gets more complicated- this car’s VIN has an “H” so this car has the lower LG4 305, not the L69 HO variant (if it did it would have a “G” in the VIN. This is further supported by the lower redline tach in the dash. Therefore- this car has been partly restored with new decals, and incorrect ones at that.
