Low Mileage 1976 Chevrolet Silverado 3500 Dually

After spending many years with a former Army general, this 1978 Chevrolet Silverado C 3500 dually is a rust-free, all original, low mile time capsule that is ready for a new home. How many miles you may wonder? Well, a picture of the odometer shows 33,450. Thirty bids have put the price of this truck up to $8,600 with no reserve. It is located in Coy, Alabama. The 96-year-old retired general meticulously documented all maintenance that happened to this truck. He tucked it away in 2005 and it has been stored in a barn until October of 2019. It had only been used for short 5-mile commuting trips once a week and an occasional 50-mile camping trip. The seller is the second owner and says that the 350 cubic-inch V8 runs better than most new trucks. You also will not find a 4-speed manual on most modern trucks either, which this old square body is joyously equipped with.

Inside is a warm brown, all original interior. Two items that came from the factory include a title steering wheel and a tachometer. All the body panels are solid and you can see in one of the photos of the bed that it too, is rust free. It held a camper at one point but the current owner recently removed it. They also said that when they purchased it, it still had the original tires. Thankfully, they replaced those not too long ago, but they don’t say if the photos are of the new or old tires.

There are some good photos of the truck although there are no photos of the underside. A few more engine photos would be helpful too. The seller lists their name and phone number if you have questions but also notes that the truck is listed for sale locally. Even though the listing says the truck is stock, those horns on the front quarter panel certainly aren’t. There might be other non-stock elements hiding around in the photos. Maybe you all can spot more? The truck is still an awesome machine for the price no matter how you look at it.

    I have always wanted to mount the motor on the rear-end and have a good time with one of these… All of the purists are now just hoping I can’t buy this one

    Never before have heard a front fender being called a quarter panel, is that a regional thing? The Chevy emblem in the grille looks like it has a light in it, probably to go along with the fog lamps.

      Quarter panel A? I’ve read it used in ads with vehicles for sale,not sure where right off,but yes,i agree,its a geographical thing,sorta like beds and boxes,toppers and caps😁

    I always thought these to be the quintessential, government issued, generic truck. “Truck, 3/4 ton, pickup/utility. This side toward enemy.” Never understood the rabid love for these. Sure, they got the job done. But they shook, rattled and rolled and quite frankly they’re ugly.

    The true meaning of front quarter panel is the area that the front fender bolts to when cars still had real fenders, there were front and rear quarter panels and front and rear fenders, with “modern” cars the rear fenders became 1/4 panels as they were 1/4 of the rear of the cars no more quarter panels in the front just fenders (regionally some names still remain) just because some one never heard of it doesn’t make it wrong, dually s came with 454s standard this must have been some special order truck

      The 454 was optional even on the dually trucks. This one had the 350 from new, as shown in VIN number and SPID label in the glove box. The 292 six cylinder is the base engine for one ton Chevrolet GMC trucks of this era. However being a dually may upgrade the standard engine to the 350. Will have to research that one. New owner will be getting a cool truck.
