Low Miles, Two Owners: 1991 Mustang GT 5.0 Convertible
The Fox body Mustang has gained considerable favor in the marketplace recently and for good reason. These are very competent cars for a very reasonable price. Want to race it? No problem. Grocery getter? Ditto. Occasional weekend car? Eager and willing. Here on eBay, we have that weekend car for you, a beautiful 1991 Mustang GT Convertible. The asking price is $20,000 but the seller is willing to entertain an offer. The car is located in Westport, Connecticut. The seller is only the second owner and this car has just 27,900 miles. Miles may accumulate from here, however, as this beauty will be enjoyed until the new owner collects her.
The Fox body Mustang was born out of the oil crisis of the 1970s. The first generation Mustang was wildly popular, but as the years went by, Ford added weight to the original design until, by 1973, Mustangs were 500 lbs heavier than the first Pony car. That cut fuel efficiency dramatically, so Ford dished up the Mustang II, a slimmed down but underpowered shadow of its former self. Once the fuel crisis had waned, Ford tried again. The Fox Mustang is the third generation model, with production stretching from 1979 to 1993. The GT is powered by Ford’s venerable 5.0 liter HO V8, putting out 220 bhp. By 1986, Mustang engines used electronic fuel injection only – no more carburetors. This car comes with an automatic (Argh). You know you’re looking at a low-mileage car when the factory engine bay stickers are unblemished!
The white interior is quite nice. I would ask for photos of the driver’s seat in detail, as the bolster near the door looks a bit worn, and another photo shows the door pocket sagging. The convertible top is white, looks to be near new with minimal scuffing, and is said to work well. This was the first year of five-spoke 16″ alloy wheels from the factory. These are very clean, showing no signs of road rash.
The Fox body evolved through time with minor facelifts every few years. In 1987, the body was modernized with “cheese grater” tail lights, aerodynamic headlights, and a smoother front end, among other tweaks. This styling persisted through the last year of production nearly unchanged. The color here is Deep Emerald and the seller indicates that he has changed the oil and installed a new muffler recently. Off-season the car is stored in a climate-controlled garage on a trickle charger. Hopefully, the third owner will enjoy and care for this survivor as well as the first two owners.

Nice Fox Body. I like the dark green paint. Looks to have had great care and is in excellent condition. Many will be fine with the automatic if their intent is to cruise on a nice day. Price isn’t too far off, and I suspect values of Fox Bodies will continue to rise.
Many of our young people can not drive a stick. Autos are becoming much more popular. LX looked better, the GT was too “busy”. I also like the green color, reminds me of the cars back home.

No. This one looks similar but the “7-Up” cars were 1990 models and were single-tone green.

I’m beginning to like these more every time I see one. I used to genuinely despise these cars because the Florida Highway Patrol chased me up and down I-95 in them growing up.

But the combo of convertible and body kit looks pretty hot imo, and those Boomer cops are now safely tucked away in retirement gated communities, playing golf if they’re lucky. 😉
I agree. I test drove a brand new one way back when and loved it. Scads of git up ‘n go. The style has only become more attractive to me over time. Low mileage examples ARE out there. I drive to Monterey Classic Car Week every year from Oregon and frankly I wouldn’t mind the automatic at all while grinding through San Fran.
Love this car. Bought a new 91 Mustang GT, 5 speed, hatchback, same emerald green color when I lived in Berlin, Germany. So much fun on the autobahn. My son inherited it in 1999 and sold it 4 years later. Something we both regret. If this car was a 5 speed, I’d buy it.
Its incredible to see these Foxbody Mustangs starting to climb in price indicating their collectability. This one for $20k, a recent 79 Pace car going for $30k that 60’s car territory. Maybe i’ll break even with the $12k body restoration and present engine resto mod on my rare 83 GT Turbo.

I wonder what a Mexican Spec Fox Body Mustang would bring in the US?
I just posted to IG a 1984 hatchback that was built with the Mustang hood and grille but with Capri wider fenders.
The rear is the bubble back Capri design.
Of course it has the 302 V8, as all Mexican Mustangs had since day 1, and it is a stick shift.
Plus it is resale red.
