Like-New 1992 Dodge W250 Cummins 5-Speed
I’ll be honest: I’m not really into pickup trucks. Especially not the big American trucks; I like quirky little trucks. I do firmly believe, however, that there is a time and place for everything, and I know enough to recognize something spectacular when I see it. This is your typical, run-of-the-mill, Dodge work truck. Single cab, eight-foot bed. What’s special about it is what’s under the body, and how just how unbelievably clean everything is. I’ll tell you specifics in a minute, but just know: this is a truck you can’t buy anymore. You can get close, but this is something that just doesn’t exist. And here it is on eBay.
The truck is magnificent. I said above that what makes it special is what’s underneath, and I wasn’t joking. This is why I’m so sad that the seller doesn’t include any underhood pictures. Oh, well. This picture here gives a major hint. The truck is powered by a 5.9 liter Cummins B-series turbocharged, direct-injected, straight-six diesel and drives either the rear or all four wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and two-speed transfer case with locking front wheel hubs. Yes. Not something I would personally want to drive, but I can respect something that is clearly as amazing as this, and I hope it goes to an appreciative home.
You wouldn’t ever be able to tell that it has almost 200,000 miles on it by looking at the interior. The owners of this truck have cared for it, and it shows. The leather bench seat looks to still have firm bolsters and no rips, the carpet is clean, the dash has no cracks, and everything works. I’ve been scouring these pictures trying to find something, anything, that’s less than completely perfect and the only thing I could find is the little light over the climate controls and the Cummins logo doesn’t look to be fully secured.
At the risk of offending people: I think a truck like this that has never seen snow is almost a crime. That ground clearance, that powertrain, and just that truck were almost designed for the snow. The seller mentions that they’re in Colorado. Surely one, fun, exploratory test drive up into the mountains in the dead of January couldn’t hurt it too much, right? You can sleep in the bed. To the new owner: drive this, enjoy this, but for the love of the gods of cars, continue to take care of this.

Looks like the seat has been replace with one of another color than the rest of the interior. Looks kind of goofy to me.
While I’m not a fan of the Cummins dry sleeve engines, (I prefer IH wet sleeve) these early Dodge trucks with the Cummins are highly sought after. If well taken care of like this one, should last damn near forever or 700,000 miles, whichever comes first, lol. Probably not a fair comparison as there are no DTA 360’s in any pickup that I’m aware of. My ’94 IH ex-school now swap meet bus has that bulletproof wet sleeve engine. It has just over 100K miles.
Just an FYI this isn’t an original truck. It has been repainted, body work done, completely gone through the engine, and new different interior out of something else. Still a cool truck but is not a 200k miles original truck.
nor is it a $20,000 truck
I’ve got a ’93 Cummins and until recently was on the flacebook 1st gen forum and I’ve seen trucks like this go for over $30k on there. No DEF, no Cat, just a basic bare bones (read: reliable) diesel. That’s the main reason the price of these has gone through the roof.
Seat is not correct. Would have been a cloth one piece bench originally. I believe this now has second row seats from a fairly recent Honda Odyssey minivan. See the foldup arms on the outer edges and the cupholders on the outboard corners? Clearly from a van. Far from an untouched example, but its pretty sharp regardless, and powertrain makes it desirable.
