Lap of Luxury: 1966 Cadillac Coupe de Ville
Life can be hectic, and at some point, we all need that circuit breaker. We crave that moment when we can step back from the hustle-and-bustle of our daily existence to draw breath and recharge our batteries. For some, this involves venturing into the great outdoors to commune with Mother Nature in some remote location. For others, it is the simple act of slipping behind the wheel of a classic car that provides the escape they richly deserve. If you’re going to do that, I can’t think of a better place than to waft down the road in a luxurious vehicle like this 1966 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. Its interior features lashings of luxury touches, and the owner can watch the world spin past them in splendid isolation. If this sounds too tempting to resist, you will find this Cadillac located in Jersey City, New Jersey, and listed for sale here on eBay. The owner has set the BIN at $16,500, and with 121 people watching the listing, it seems that a few people might be teetering on the edge of yielding to temptation.
If a buyer wants to park a spotless luxury classic in their driveway, this Coupe de Ville would seem to be a strong candidate. The owner indicates that the car has received a previous repaint in its original Crystal Firemist, but it appears that it is otherwise untouched. The paint holds a beautiful shine, while the White vinyl top seems to accentuate its luxurious and classy appearance. The panels are laser straight, and the gaps are as tight as you would have the right to expect on a vehicle of this type. The owner doesn’t mention any rust problems in the listing, and the exterior looks particularly clean. It seems that the de Ville has spent most of its life in Texas, which will have helped its cause on that front. The trim and chrome shine as impressively as the paint. The tinted glass appears flawless, and the narrow whitewall tires add the perfect finishing touch to this Cadillac’s exterior.
The interior continues the theme of excellent presentation with the Cadillac, and it has no issues that are worth noting. The White leather upholstery on the front seat has developed the creases that are all a part of the character of aging leather, but there is no evidence of wear or other problems. The rear seat appears to be in as-new condition, as are the dash and remaining trim pieces. The pad and carpet in contrasting green not only seem to be in excellent order, but they serve to tie the interior and exterior finishes together nicely. For a car from this era, the interior also features some excellent touches to make occupants feel thoroughly pampered. These include ice-cold air conditioning, power windows, a power front seat, a Twilight Sentinel, a remote exterior mirror, and an AM/FM stereo radio with a power antenna.
The owner offers no engine photos, but we know that the Coupe de Ville rolled off the line equipped with a 429ci V8, a 3-speed TH-400 automatic transmission, power steering, and power brakes. The Cadillac is no muscle car, but the 308hp and 447 ft/lbs of available torque from that V8 are enough to fire the 4,651lb classic through the ¼ mile in 16.4 seconds. As an open-road cruiser, that makes the driving experience seem pretty effortless. The owner indicates that the odometer currently shows 39,000, although he can’t confirm whether this is original. However, the overall lack of wear inside the car and its exterior condition would make this seem possible. The car runs and drives and is ready to be enjoyed by its lucky new owner.
There’s nothing on earth quite like slipping behind the wheel of a classic muscle or sports car and relishing the involving driving experience that those cars offer. However, there’s also a lot to be said for stepping back from the edge for a while and relishing a feeling of isolation and comfort. That experience could be yours if you handed over the cash for this 1966 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. This car seems to need nothing, and it offers all the features to make life on the road a pleasurable experience. Sometimes we need to treat ourselves to such an experience. Don’t you agree?

When I close my eyes and think Caddy, this is what I see! I do not follow Caddy pricing but this seems fair. Not sure whats up with the speaker grill on the dash but it would not stop me if I had the room. Normally I do not listen to the radio when I drive, but this, grab a couple beverages, try to find some ZZ top on the jukebox and cruise on a cloud. Great find.
Speaker grill is for the factory stereo. There is another grille on the right side, also
Both Cadillac and Chevrolet had optional 4 speaker multiplex stereo systems available. Oddly enough, the other GM divisions used a 2 speaker multiplex system.
Yes…ZZ Top – “I’m Bad, I’m Nationwide” comes to mind, “Easin’ down the highway in a new Cadillac…
Also forgot to mention…the Cadillac has tilt & telescopic wheel.
I would be nervous buying the car out of New Jersey. How many bodies have been stuffed into that trunk lol? Ya don’t wanna make Guido angry! Fuhgitaboutit!
Very elegant car! I love the 1965-1968 Cadillac look. Pure class. This one seems priced very well.
May Dusty Hill rest in peace.
Ooooof-Faaaaahhh
Agree; wonder how many bullet holes they patched up in the repaint
Agree; wonder how many bullet holes the patched up in the repaint!
Poetry in Motion
One tiny correction: Cadillac’s 429 V8 was rated at 340HP; not 308.
Nothing against ZZ, but looking at this I hear Sinatra or Miles.
Louis Prima!
Sing Sing Sing…
Looks like a pretty good example of a Caddy seems to check all the right boxes.
It’s been a long time since I have seen one of these I forgot how HUGE this car was. The weight must be impressive?
Growing up in New Jersey, my family had a ’66 Coupe De Ville that my stepfather, on a whim, bought from a guy he met at the VFW hall. Alcohol may have been involved. In any case, my mom wasn’t interested in driving a gigantic 25 year old car with drum brakes and a 10mpg habit, so it mostly sat out front of the house.
(It’s not like my stepfather was going to drive it — his daily was a Saab 900 Turbo with a 5 speed, which is about as opposite from a ’66 Caddy as you can get)
My memories: Three BMX bikes fit in the trunk without modification. Polishing the chrome took 3 hours. And it drove with almost complete indifference to whatever road conditions were underneath it. What potholes? What speed bumps?
I see one of these & instantly think of Don Draper. The salesman says something to the effect of his current car says he is going places, but the Caddy says you have arrived.
I would love to have this if I weren’t knee deep in a C10 & Camaro restoration. And the price seems reasonable enough. 👍
I’m telling my wife if she’s looking for Christmas ideas, look no further…
I had an Emerald Green ’66 Fleetwood Brougham 4 dr. with caramel vinyl padded top and all caramel interior. Brocade cloth & leather seats, writing tables on back of front seats and foldup footrests in rear. 11 MPG.
It was dead reliable. The Green Monster.
I would love to have this coupe, but no room. (9 cars)
….make it a perfect 10.
What a sweetheart 66 Cadillac. Doubt 39k is the mileage more like it’s turned over. But who wouldn’t want to drive it 139,000 miles? With no engine pics, be nice to know if it was rebuilt. Also hope it’s had no previous rust when they did the repaint. Otherwise a fair asking price for a great car.
