Lucky Dip Dodge: 1969 Dodge Coronet Station Wagon

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

This 1969 Dodge Coronet 440 Station Wagon is a bit of a lucky dip. We get to see the outside of the car, but the interior and under the hood remain something of a mystery. Still, given the growing popularity of classic wagons, there is every chance that someone will grab this wagon at its $2,495 asking price. The Coronet is located in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and is listed for sale here on Craigslist.

The outside of the Coronet looks about as tired as you would expect from a car that has been out of service for an extended period of time. The Light Green Metallic paint has worn through in some spots, while surface corrosion is visible in others. The owner says that there is some rust in the floors, but that the car is structurally solid. The photos are a bit vague, but it looks like some rust in the lower fenders might be the only external rust in the car. Certainly, the quarter panels, rockers, doors, and tailgate all look to be pretty good (from what we can see).

As far as the interior is concerned, the owner provides us with no real information. All we know is that the car is optioned with a power rear window and air conditioning. The same is true about what is under the hood of the Coronet. We know that the car is fitted with what he believes to be the original 318ci V8, a Torqueflite transmission, and what he believes is an 8¾” rear end, but not a whole lot more. The car doesn’t currently run, and the owner isn’t even sure if the engine turns freely. On the positive side, it does appear that the owner is more than happy for people to go and give the car a good look, so that should help any prospective buyers to get a few answers.

This Dodge Coronet Wagon really is a lucky dip, because there are so many questions that need to be answered. With the owner being so willing to let people inspect the car, that does indicate that he doesn’t feel that there is anything to hide about the car. Would you be willing to give this old classic the once-over?

Good thing this pile is in Louisiana, it is what I have been looking for to start a “Super Bee” wagon project. Wheew. Missed by that much.

This sure would be a beauty done up in the factory color, with a 340 or 383 4 speed. Would leave em shakiin their heads. And Yep stig a super bee wagon would be a cool projects and will drive the purists nuts!!
Good luck to the new owner!
    Cheers

Had a guy in our Mopar club do one of these up with a 440-6 pac(that’s the way he spelled it), and it looked “COOL”. Even had the hood scoop.

I would say this is a much wiser choice than that blue Coronet coupe on this site.

Looks like the flipper bought this car with no keys ; it always seems they blow the left rear glass out to unlock the cars . But at least he washed the car – unlike most sellers !

Don, I would go with the vent windows. More available and easier to replace. A rear window would be difficult to find for a wagon. Then again, i’ll just look behind the bumpers and find a spare key attached in a magnet box with the slide window.
