Michael Keaton Replica: Batmobile

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

The Batmobile was first made famous in the 1966 Batman TV series using four custom creations built by George Barris. When Batman went to the big screen in the late 1980s with two films starring Michael Keaton, a new Batmobile was born. Recreations of these cars show up from time to time and the seller was building yet another one. After investing $35,000, this incomplete vehicle is ready for the next owner to finish and then take to solving crime (well, not really). Located in Midlothian, Virginia, this few-of-a-kind car is available here on Facebook Marketplace for $22,000. Thanks, Chuck Foster, for bringing this neat tip to light!

We understand that the Batmobile Keaton used in the 1989 movie and its 1992 sequel was built upon a Chevy Impala chassis with a V8 engine from a 1970s Corvette. This one is following down a similar path with a Caprice station wagon undercarriage and a 5.7-liter crate motor using an automatic transmission (Turbo-Hydramatic?). When the project is complete, supposedly you can title and register it as the Chevrolet the VIN is associated with.

This vehicle has loads and loads of primed fiberglass body parts which may be where most of the seller’s investment lies. Unless the seller is one or more of the guys from The Big Bang Theory, he/she is either a huge Batman fan or was expecting to make money on this vehicle when finished. We’re told these machines can go for $200,000 when roadworthy.

Although an air suspension has been installed, the remaining work includes doing the wiring, installing an interior, finishing the bodywork, and applying some paint. Nothing is as cool as a Batmobile, especially the ones from the more serious Batman movies rather than the TV show was which campy and sometimes played for laughs. Here’s a video of what one of these replicas can look like in street action.

Never a big fan of Movie cars or the Bat Mobile specifically , however this one could be the exception. Its ,sinister looks, stance and attitude makes it much more desirable.

Looks like a cross between a vacuum cleaner attachment and a superhero’s helmet.

I believe one of the original movie cars was sold at auction by Butterfield & Butterfield in L.A. about 20 years ago when my ex worked there. She said an A-list magician won the lot with his high bid.
