Mini Bargain: 1968 Austin Mini 1000
We found this 1968 Austin Mini 1000 and though it was such a great deal that we had to post it. It’s currently in pieces, but the seller has done a lot of the work already and isn’t asking much. The seller has it listed on eBay with a BIN price of $3,000 and a starting bid of $2,500.
The car has already had all the body work and paint redone, but the seller just never got it put back together. It’s been sitting in their garage for quite a few years unfinished and they are ready to just get rid of it. All of the original parts are included in the sale. The engine and transmission are out of the car, but supposedly worked when they were pulled out of the car. It’s hard to say whether the engine will still run after being out of the car, but we would assume that it wouldn’t be too difficult to get it working again.
The interior is pulled apart, but the dash is intact and in place. The seats have been re-upholstered, but aren’t installed. The inside of the car was obviously re-sprayed with the rest of the car. The seller claims that there isn’t any rust in the car, so we would assume that means they replaced any bad sheet metal before they re-sprayed it. We would be sure to check the body for bondo just to be sure there aren’t any hidden surprises.
With all the dust on the car it’s hard to tell the quality of the re-spray, but hopefully it was done right and will look good after being cleaned and polished. At this price we would extremely tempted to build this Mini as a vintage racer and we wouldn’t feel too bad about it since this car is already in peices. Whether the buyer decides to restore it or use it for vintage racing, this car will make an excellent buy and a fun project.

This does have the sliding windows but a year ago I sold a 1974 New Zealander import with a 1380 and no rust for $4500.There’s a depression on.
The headline is an oxymoron. There is no such thing as a bargain Mini. It’s a contradiction in terms.
