Mini-Monster Truck: 1990 Honda CR-X

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

What do you get when you combine a Honda CR-X with a Suzuki Samurai and a Chevy Blazer? A Blazing Suzuda? A Honda SamBlaze? Or a SamdaChev? Whatever you call it, this is quite possibly a one of a kind. It has a Honda CR-X body mounted on a Samurai frame with a Blazer drivetrain. The seller bought it to have a bit of fun, but the starter broke coming off the trailer and it hasn’t run since. The family man has too much going on to work on it now, so it’s time for someone else to take the lead. Located near Frederick, Maryland, this interesting 4X4 project is available here on craigslist for $5,500 OBO. Thanks for the tip, Chuck Foster!

The Honda CR-X was a FWD sports compact built across two generations from 1983-81. How the car got its name is highly speculated with the most likely definition of the acronym is “Civic Renaissance Experimental.” The version of the auto sold in the U.S. was intended to transport two passengers, although the Japanese versions had small jump seats in the back for short people. The car was a good performer and handler that was easy on gasoline.

How this 4X4 conversion came to be is not disclosed and the builder likely put far more into it than the seller is trying to get out of it. After all, three complete vehicles may have been required to pull this off. The seller has a video showing the finished product running under its own power that he can share, and the car was supposedly a daily driver after it was built. I suppose the father of this vehicle started with a chassis from an available Samurai and modified it so that the CR-X body would fit on it. Then a 4.3-liter V6 engine with an automatic transmission would have been dropped in to make it go.

No photos are offered of the engine compartment or the interior, so all we can go by here is the exterior view which shows possibly a decent body that needs paint. When the seller bought it, the vehicle drove onto the trailer without a problem, but a starter bolt broke when he went to unload it (talk about bad timing), so the seller hasn’t touched it since. Presumably, if you fixed that issue, it would run again, and then you could determine what to do with the car/truck project next. BTW, you’ll need to carry a ladder with you wherever you go!

Again, well worth the “relog in”,,people is the craziest people, “starter broke coming off the trailer and hasn’t run since”??? Really? LAUGH OUT LOUD!!! I bet the person THEY got it from did cart wheels when this contraption left their yard. What was it that P.T. Barnum uttered over 100 years ago? Not sure what else to say, the tires are probably the most valuable thing here, let ‘er rip, folks, this ought to be good, and a BF’s exclusive, our take on these monstrosities, that for some, never got off the trailer,,,

Wow, CR-X’s a very cool sought after cars: samurai’s are quickly becoming cult classics. So let’s destroy 2 very cool autos and make a ………..well fill in the blank.

Sure, broken starter bolt on a Chevy V6 is just too big a task. Gonna abandon the whole thing instead. I believe him. Right. I dig these stupid 4×4 creations but this screams shady deal to me. Easier to fix darn starter than push it off the trailer. Just saying. If I’m being paranoid than my apologies Mr.Seller.

I would have to agree with KC John, sounds fishy to me.

OK, so what he’s saying is that it’s not worth the price of a starter bolt.

I don’t get these 4X4 conversions. Let’s take a car meant to be agile and dynamic and ruin both qualities. It makes as much sense as taking a luxury car built for comfort and replacing it’s seats with wooden crates covered in hair shirt seat covers.
Maybe you could also weld hard tops on convertibles or turn 15 passenger vans into 2 seat roadsters.

Trailer it to the county fair along with a good quality 10 pound sledge and let people wail on it with the proceeds going to charity. A win-win for society as a whole.

They have clearly watched Mad Max or Deathrace one to many times. This is what happens when you listen to the Good Idea Fairy. It’ll be fun he said, You’ll make he said, It’ll be easy he said, You will be the coolest dude in town he said. The Good Idea fairy is a liar.

What rednecks are busy with during their free time while many others spend it doing something purposeful or constructive. If you wanna spend it tinkering on a car, great. Restore a classic or something, don’t waste time ruining two great cars to make one pile of trash.

Call me a redneck if you want but this thing looks like it would be fun, it’s street legal in my state.

A good friend of mine did the same thing with an Austin Healy Sprite and a military Jeep … essentially destroyed 2 classic vehicles to make a mess
