Museum Quality: 1977 Chevrolet Stepside Sport
Listed as “museum quality”, is this 37K mile, 1977 Chevrolet Stepside C10 “Sport” pickup. It has been totally restored though it is referenced also with the suggestion that it, “Could be the only original left in the country”. So that’s an invitation to investigate further. This Chevy Stepside is located in Spring Valley, Illinois and is available, here on Hemmings for $40,000, firm! Thanks to Mitchell G for this tip!
Offered as an option between 1976 and 1981, Chevrolet’s “Sport” package was an appearance option – wheels, badging, and stripes, offered on both the Stepside and Fleetside, short bed (6.5 feet) pickup trucks. The only other requirement for the Sport option was the inclusion of Scottsdale Trim. This is another one of those vehicles where I’ve been asleep at the switch as I don’t recall ever seeing a Chevy pickup adorned as such.
So back to the opening statement, the seller mentions “totally restored” and “original” in the same breath. I take that to mean that this truck has been restored to its original condition. Whichever the case, it looks great if this sort of get-up is your thing. The exterior images are limited and the opening shot is the only one that takes in this truck in its entirety. The other images are snippets mostly but nothing looks out of place including the cargo bed which shows to be little used or well restored or a little bit of both. The mileage is recorded as 37K miles, and the odometer bears that out but there is no documentation beyond that.
Power is provided by a 165 net HP, 350 CI V8 engine and it looks like it’s right off of the Flint engine assembly line – it’s remarkable looking! (though the valve covers are reversed) The seller makes no mention as to how it runs but a low compression, four-barrel carburetor equipped 350 motor is how many Chevy, and GMC, trucks came equipped in this era and it’s a workaholic motor that is more than adequate for the job. And this example has the added benefit of a four-speed manual transmission. Unfortunately, this truck is sans A/C.
The interior is standard GM vinyl but the burgundy/red shade contrasts perfectly with the black exterior and makes for a fine presentation. While not the best quality interiors ever offered by the General, this one’s condition matches that of the truck’s exterior. The seat upholstery, dash pad (a known weak spot) door panels, and instrument panel look unused and like new. The interior needs nothing!
As stated earlier, the seller references this Stepside Sport as being “museum quality”. Look all of the images over closely, the fuel and brake lines, steering components, the differential, and the aforementioned engine. I’d have to agree with his assessment, how about you?

Very cool truck. Vintage A/C an easy fix on this one if desired.
Just the thing for my pick-up truck museum.
I had a model kit (Monogram, I think) of this exact pickup when I was a kid…right down to the graphics! I love it!
That was first thing that hit my mind, when i saw these pictures!
It was not easy to get those graphics right.
If it’s totally restored, then it’s definitely not the only “original” left in the country.
Love the truck! But isnt that a little high priced for a square body?
I had one of these, as I remember these came out near the middle of the production year. The ones in our area had white graphics only. These trucks appeared to have been built from leftover parts from that production year. I looked at five of these before buying the one I had. None of the five were equipped alike. Some were C models, others were K models. Some had 3 speed manuals, some 4 speed manuals, some automatics. Some didn’t have radios, others had AM only, the one I bought had AM-FM. If you wanted one you had to take whatever was on the lot. As I remember Chevrolet just sent them to dealers, they were not a option that could be ordered. The Hemmings ad lists this truck as a “COPO”, as I remember, COPO’s of that era were all equipped alike. That wasn’t the case with these trucks. $40,000, a lot of blue sky there.
If you squint it looks like someone painted something pink on a pickup truck…..cool…huhu
A no air step side truck for 40K?
I had one of these also. Mine was a also a C10, but was a white base instead of the black. It had the same stripes and was definitely a head turner. My interior color was exact to this black truck. Wished I still had it today, but you never think someday it will be a collector. I had N50 tires all the way around with white spoke American Racing wheels. Bought it used in 1978. I was 16 and kept it until I was in my 20s.
