There are few fiberglass bodied vehicles as sleek and impressive looking as the Kellison J-5. Most Kellison J-5s were sold as unassembled kit cars, but this 1964 Kellison J-5 rolled out of the Kellison plant assembled and ready to drive. The owner has had this J-5 for sale for a while on the kellisoncars.com website, but has recently listed it on eBay where it has a current bid of $12,000 and an unmet reserve.

Kellison’s designs were very cutting edge for their time and could easily be mistaken for a high dollar Italian. Early Kellison bodies had poor build quality, but by the time this J-5 rolled out of the factory the fit and finish had been brought up to an impressive level. This car looks great and we love the styling of the car.

Being a kit car, the J-5 could have nearly any engine installed in it, but most were powered by the Corvette 327 and this one is no different. This car’s 327 has recently been rebuilt and was upgraded along the way, it even has a stage two nitrous system installed. We imagine this car is a blast to drive, especially with the 3-speed slap shift automatic transmission and all that power.

This Kellison is ready to be driven and is one of the finest J-5s we have ever seen. Many of these cars’ interiors were never properly finished, but this one has been finished nicely. This car is setup to be a salt flat racer, but we prefer how this car looks without the turned aluminum wheels. As much as we would love to see this car on the salt flats or at a race track, we think one this nice should be seen on the street. Hopefully the seller hasn’t set the reserve as high as what they are asking on kellisoncars.com, but we wouldn’t be surprised if they are asking something close to their original $25,000 asking price.
