Hot Rods and Saabs: Maine Auto Auction!
We love seeing listings for estate clean-outs and auctions for whole car collections, as the variety of parts, cars, tools, and signage is usually pretty entertaining. This upcoming auction at a property in Maine is no exception, with a wide variety of potential projects and drivers to take home that all appear to be in decent condition. This 1937 metal-bodied Ford Coupe is chopped and dropped and has a V8 from a ’53 Oldsmobile under the hood, and is one of many vehicles listed here on Keenan Auction’s website.
Thanks to Barn Finds reader Phil S. for the find. At the other end of the spectrum, the former owner also has a whole fleet of Saab 900 convertibles (well, it is New England after all and this is the quintessential summer car). The stash includes multiple red turbocharged convertibles like this one, including a few non-runners and parts cars. Curiously, most of them are automatics which was generally the undesirable choice if you were going to buy a Saab, and two of them don’t even work. Pictures show several have the desirable SPG wheels and one has a larger set of 16″ Super Aeros.
This 1947 Willys pickup is described as a rat rod with a bored-out 454 and a dual-quad high-rise intake (that much is obvious). The listing notes it has a 3-speed manual transmission, 1-ton Chevy rear end, four-link airbag rear suspension, and a new gas tank and radiator. I suspect this is the vehicle of choice if you want to go out and scare small children in the neighborhood. Hard to say whether it’s a high-end build made to look ratty, or just actually ratty.
Then there’s this super clean 1976 Dodge D200 pickup from California, that for some reason was given a bare-metal respray, a 4BT Cummins swap, and a C6 automatic transmission with overdrive. This is a seriously sleepy setup and I think we can all agree that whoever built this collection is an enthusiast, through and through. The Saabs are a curveball but hey – it’s a classic enthusiast vehicle and everyone needs a fun summer car. Check out the whole collection at the link above and let us know which one you’d take home.

I would love to take home that dodge PU but when you go to auctions like this one, buyers get Auction Fever and go nuts on bidding. Great news for sellers though.
I would love to see the engine compartment of the Willys, someone did a lot of custom work to make that engine fit. Normally the grill is recessed a few inches behind the leading edge of the front fenders, but in this case, the grill is probably 8 inches in front of the fenders!
