Here’s The Story: 1969 Plymouth Fury III Convertible
Here’s the story, of a lovely 1969 Plymouth Fury III Convertible, who was bringing up three very lovely.. ok, enough of the Brady Bunch theme song. This Fury ragtop is listed on eBay with bids of just over $4,950 so far but the reserve isn’t met yet. It’s located in Omaha, Nebraska and it was tracked down by our own Jamie!
I’m going to take a wild guess and say that not many of you were fans of the Brady Bunch, the old tv show from over four decades ago? A few of you were, and still are? That’s great to hear. Well then you should recognize a blue Fury convertible like this one as a car that Bob Reed: aka Mike Brady drove for a season or two? It was my personal favorite of the Mike Brady cars, most (all?) of which were convertibles, if I remember right?
This isn’t the car from the tv show, of course, but it sure looks like a nice example overall, with just enough work left to do to ensure that it bonds with the new owner. I love the look with the rear fender skirts on, it really accentuates the fuselage design in my opinion. The seller does mention that it had a repaint in the 1980s and they believe that some bodywork was done on the rear quarters and possibly elsewhere at that time.
They say to “look close at the underside pics, the car is solid and other than normal surface stuff, it is rock solid down there!! Even the rockers look free of rust.” They go on to say that the “interior is 100% original, no rips or tears. The carpet is in good shape and its NOT faded! The interior could use a good cleaning and you’d pretty much be all done!! The dash has a crack as shown. The top is usable with no rips or tears”.
The 318 cubic-inch V8, which would have had 230 hp, “runs and starts very well. Starting cold it needs a little help. I’m guessing a carb rebuild and a accelerator pump will make it perfect.” Hagerty is at $9,900 for a #4 fair condition 318 convertible and $13,800 for a #3 good condition car. What are your thoughts on the value of this car? And, maybe even more importantly, your thoughts on the Brady Bunch cars? “Mike” drove a ’68 Dodge Polara 500 convertible in the pilot and went on to a Fury III convertible, a Barracuda convertible and a Caprice convertible. It’s the Fury III all day long for me.

Greg’s was better.
He paid $100 and he got ripped off!
What a boat! Probably floats right along…….floats is the operative word! Be a great car to play with, though once again I think the prices have risen beyond what they are worth to me………………talk about a devalued dollar!
I often wonder how many kids in the 60’s and 70’s went to college to become an architect like Mike Brady .Nice house , great wife, maid 6 great kids that had no money worries I like the episode where the oldest son (Greg) lost the blueprints he was suppose to deliver while looking at comic books at a local magazine shop. Mike had to stay up all night to redraw the plans. I’m thinking Chrysler was a sponsor of the show until Chevrolet caught on.
Where are the paddles? Lol 😂
I wonder how many of these are left that have tilt and cruise control. It could very well be the only one. I hope it finds a nice home where it’s well preserved.
Gee, if it was only a Porsche 365, then we would have something here! Gosh I sure do lub them 365s!
Ummmm…..
Alrighty then (??)
Looks nice – one I wouldn’t mind. US sale only though. Is it my eyes – or did the trunk floor look wet, as if the seals were leaking? And the rear trim panel armrests look decidedly battered.
Trunk floor is soaked & looks like it’s been that way for a long time. Guaranteed holes in that pan.
What’s with the mangled rear arm rests?
Love the color!
Love these the 68 was a tad more sculptured and expensive looking but love these too.
Tilt-telescope and cruise control but crank windows and no ac, interesting combination.
Almost bought my wife red one back in ’87. It looked really nice for a nearly 20 year old car. It had a matching number
high output 383 V-8 mated to an HD 727
Torqueflite tranny along with a tow package and factory A/C. the engine ran.
well despite an alternator that screamed
like a frightened banshee. I would’ve put
up with all the flaws that car had if the
young salesman hadn’t lied to me about
the top being slit and the factory radio
being MIA. He insulted me by saying that
the top had a slit in it due to age! WTF!?
He said that it was the original top and
that the Florida sun burned a hole right
through it!! Well, what about the radio
then–why was it missing? He had no
answer but I had mine. Bought my wife
a really potent ’73 Maverick sedan instead.
Never met a car salesman that was honest. There must be one out there somewhere, But I’ve never met one yet.
I think I just bought that red car you are talking about in the Tampa Bay area!
Never met an honest car salesman yet, although there must be one out there somewhere.
You obviously have not done business with Dave the NV Guy!
I am that one you were searching for!
I love the B5 blue color, price etc. But I’m partial to C-bodies. Look at a lot of comments, pictures etc at forcbodiesonly.com
Nice car
Great price
Grab it
Nice car
Great price
Grab it !!!
Also a bit odd having a black dash and blue interior. Didn’t these normally come with a matching blue dash and steering wheel?
I rarely believe sellers who squawk EASY PROJECT but this guy may be right. You could just clean it up and live with it.
All I can say is Marcia Marcia Marcia LOL
Jack up the air cleaner and slide a 440 under it, do some chassis work and you’ve got the perfect Power Tour car.
ACZ , i was thinking the same thing. This car is begging for a 440-6pack with some AC and you’d be all set for the tour.
When you start looking at the pics on ebay, It definitely needs paint, rubbers, all 4 arm rests are a little wonky. Good first inexpensive first project. Depending on how cheap you can score the car. Also looks like damage on the passenger door.
I never watched the Brady Bunch. Chrysler products in those days were notorious for monster drivelines and very poor body integrity as well as cheap dash boards. Both Ford and Chevrolet offered more value in those areas.
This could be a low priced buy in into the Hobby, or just own it to put the top down and cruise on a Sunday afternoon. You’ll enjoy it, and the car is easy to live with. I think it’s a buy, and I’d probably do it but I’ve already had one and it was
an enjoyable experience. Sold it for an 18% yield on investment.
I’d clean it up and drive as is. I love the 318 they were good engines better on gas than the rough idling 440. I wouldn’t hot rod a 50 year old car anyway. This could be a pretty blvd cruiser cleaned up a bit.
The 318 had to be hollering for a little help trying to move Charlie the tuna boat under any sort of needed acceleration like passing or merging into faster traffic, otherwise a nice throwback to a different era.
Can’t get that stupid theme song for the Brady Brats out of my head now, thanks.😕
I’ve had several 318s in big cars they had plenty of power. Merging or otherwise. Of course people drive like maniacs now in their overpowered plastic cups. Back then not so much.
People today have what I call a false sense of security with all the wonderful safety features cars have now. Poor driver education too I suppose. Seems like there are more red light runners than ever before lately too. Then there is the whole texting at 90 miles an hour, it’s just crazy out there.
Certainly a fun cruiser. I am heavily biased in favor of C bodies though. I do notice that the car has an incorrect ’74 and newer cruise control stalk, little to be concerned about to be sure.
Troy I agree. Less distractions and cars didn’t perform the way they do now so it forced people to be more careful. Drive a car now with drum brakes it’s almost scary.
Don’t you mean “deep” cleaning, Scotty?
