Heavy Patina: 1966 Dodge D100
Up for sale is a 1966 Dodge D100 short bed. Originally, the truck was from Alamogordo, New Mexico, but is now being sold out of Santa Teresa, Texas. It has a surprisingly low Buy-It-Now price of $3,950 and you also have the ability to make an offer. It is mind-boggling that the truck is still for sale. No VIN or miles are listed, but the seller says that there is a clear title. You can view more on eBay.
The original slant six-cylinder engine is not running at the moment. According to the seller, the starter is bad, however, the photos indicate that there might be more to it than just a bad starter. The engine is connected to a manual transmission. Depending on how much work really does need to be done to get it running, it might be worthwhile to drop a junkyard Hemi into it and get the tires roasting in short order.
Inside, the truck is a little rough around the edges. There is rust on the ceiling, floors, and doors, but it doesn’t look to be critical. The seats are ripped and the dash is a little dusty, but it looks to be complete. It must have been used for some sort of off-road purpose because there is a large spotlight attached to the roof that can be hand-guided via the cab. That might be how moisture ate away at the ceiling causing surface rust.
The bed of the truck has some holes in it, but it doesn’t look alarming. It would depend on what you wanted to do with this truck if you were going to fix it to make it functional or not. The surface rust adds some charm and character to the truck and is a very popular look right now, as we all know. Again, it is surprising this truck is still for sale at the price it is.

How many here like the looks of this truck?
LOVE the look of the truck. Patina is a tricky thing. A fine line between cool and beat looking. This is kinda on the edge of beat- if it were mine, I’d clean it up the body as much as possible, paint the bumpers, grill and door cards. Add a new headliner and upholstery. As far as getting it y’know, moving- I dunno. Cummins diesel swap? lol
I agree, this is almost too far gone to pull off the patina look (which, for me, only looks good on a truck). That said, I prefer restored trucks.
Big fan of the Sweptline, but would like to see this restored…although good looking as it sits, these aren’t a common site anymore, so definitely worthy of paint.
I have access to this truck which looks very much like the featured truck., The ad doesn’t say if it has a slant 6 or not but I am going to assume it does because it is in Mexico. I know it does have a stick shift on the floor.
They want around $4300.00 USD for it, but I am not sold on the styling compared to the Ford of that year.
It looks good from all sides and the inside too, but I don’t have an engine picture. The truck has been up for sale May 21st so I see there isn’t much interest in it.
The Swepty is the best looking pickup of the era by far!

Well, 1st of all, good luck finding a “junkyard hemi”, pretty sure all have been snapped up, and 2nd nothing wrong with the ol’ slanty. The clattered, and smoked and leaked oil, but you couldn’t kill them. Nice find, too bad, just like in the 60’s, nobody wants it.
I agree, but a 340,383,or 440 would do just as well!

How hard is it to export a truck like that out of Mexico? That one looks pretty sweet. maybe you can scare up more pix of it and get the guy to sell it on BarnFinds. How far is it from San Diego?

I haven’t investigated that yet. The rules have changed since NAFTA has changed.

Have told Migel he could make money flipping the cheap cars in the area south of the border as he mentions.
These are great trucks. Parts for the Leaning Tower of Power are readily available as are complete engines.
Short bed Dodges are not that common from about 1960 up……
