Improved Car: 1926 Ford Model T Sedan

Ford Model Ts are great fun, and because so many of them were produced even today they can be had for a reasonable cost. This 1926 Model T is in good condition but will certainly need some work before it can take to the streets. The seller purchased it from an estate this year, but has decided to go after a different car and needs to clear space. Parked since the 1980s, the seller has not made any attempts to start this car. Find it here on eBay in Ohio with bidding at $3,950.

Over 15 million Model Ts were produced between 1908 and 1927, and while all shared some parts many parts varied from year to year. It is quite common to see an engine from a different car in a Model T, and that is exactly the case with this one. Though this is a 1926, the engine is a 1921. The “VIN” for Model Ts is actually the engine number, which means that typically the model year on the title is the correct year for the car. This is a 177 cubic inch inline flathead four cylinder producing a whopping 20 horsepower. It may sound anemic, but when geared appropriately these cars can easily achieve 40 MPH with a stock engine!

The interior isn’t perfect, but this car is probably an old restoration or perhaps was “freshened up” at some point. Either way, we know that any work done on this car was done prior to the 1980s when this car was parked and some wear is to be expected. For those that do not know, Model Ts operate entirely differently than a modern car. There are multiple pedals and levers and none of them do what you expect them to do! In 1925 Ts and earlier, there are three narrow pedals: clutch, reverse, and brake respectively. The 1926 and 1927 Ts have two wide pedals on either side of a narrow pedal, making operation of reverse much easier.

Model Ts have really grown on me in the last couple of years, and you can’t help but notice when one drives by. These cars are affordable to own, insure, and operate and can be had in decent condition for well under $10,000. Parts are easy to come by and knowledge is bountiful, plus there is almost guaranteed to be a local club of some sort in just about every area. This Ford will probably clean up and run with some fresh fluids, a battery, and maybe a fuel system flush. Model Ts are tough, and as long as it has fluids and a battery they will usually keep running!

Probably 2500.00 car, with lots of fun getting it running. And a lot of attention when you drive it. Parts are everywhere and not unreasonably priced. The upside in this car has flattened mildly but if you like these cars they are a lot of
    enjoyment.

Up to $4800.00 and still climbing with an hour to go. This is a nice T, and much more unusual than the Touring version. Most of the expensive to fix parts ( such as wheels and interior) look to be decent. Even at $6K this would be a good buy.
Change fluids, get it running, repack bearings, assure you have brakes ( you may need to add some aftermarket Rocky Mountain Brakes for modern traffic) and enjoy it.
