Italian Project: 1959 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider
The Italian-built Alfa Romeo Giulietta Spider is considered one of the most iconic of the 1950s/1960s sports cars. They were built for nearly a decade and yet only about 14,000 copies were sold. This example from 1959 looks a little rough and may have been sitting for some time. Located in O’Fallon, Missouri, it’s available here on eBay and comes with a 4-wheel trailer that also needs work. The current bid is $3,860 with no reserve in play.
A prototype of the Spider first appeared at a car show in 1956 and entered into production not long after. With classic styling by famed designer Pinin Farina, these cars were powered by a 1.3-liter inline-4 engine that put out about 80 hp. The auto would remain in production until 1966, with estimates running to about 1600 units in 1959, the year of the seller’s car. That model year may be significant to collectors because there was a chassis change mid-year.
The seller says virtually nothing about this red sports car with a presumed black interior. “Alfa Romeo includes a 4-wheel trailer. Trailer needs tires.” That’s all we’re going to get out of him/her. There’s no mention of any rust that we can’t see, we don’t know if it’s anywhere close to running, and we’re not sure if the project is complete. But these are highly desirable cars, so do you have room for this former Italian jewel in your garage?

Neat car, but no information, no pictures, no interest.
It’s one of those cars if you lived close by and had room in the shed it’s worth taking a risk on at 5-6000.
Tight squeeze on that trailer.
Almost looks like the car is better condition than the trailer. I’d buy the car and leave the trailer behind.

Giulietta Spider 750 1300cc. Pretty fast little cars and handle like a dream. The 1300 will spin to 8000 rpm no prob. Lots of them were road raced in Europe. Dozens of them entered the Mille Miglia.
In 1960 the type designation changed from 750 to 101. Longer wheelbase, different tail lights. Later the car got a 1600 and was renamed Giulia. If this was a 1959 Veloce version it would have factory twin Weber DCOE, hot cams, tube header, huge 3 shoe front drum brakes, bigger fuel tank, a fresh air intake behind the right side grill, and a 4.56:1 rear axle. Veloce is worth double the normal version. The short wheelbase 750 cars have generally been more desirable but the 101 is a better car. Last year was 1965 not 66. In 66 the 105 series debuted.
If this car sells for under $10k it’s a hell of a bargain unless the floors are gone. Well restored it might get $65,000. More in Europe. This car looks pretty solid. Eligible for vintage racing.
Once had a 1960 twin to this one.
The 1960 has an improved transmission, that’s all.
British Girling brakes and British Lucas electrical system, neither worked.

To far away I would do it just to get the trailer then play with the car and see if I could get it running or drop a 5.0 in it with a mustang II from suspension and 9inch rear then just use the mustang wiring harness to power everything else could make for a fun ride

Apparently it’s been on the trailer since 2004 and the engine is disassembled probably why the trunk is not shut? Doesn’t seem to comment on the condition of the floors apart from they are in place?

Seller is a man of few words. These cars are simple to restore, a ball to drive, and women love them. If the car has the drivetrain and the floors aren’t rusty, this is a huge bargain. Forget the trailer.
Currently at 5400.00 my guess it will go for close to 10 before all is said and done, and then the real work begins
Owned a 1958! So much fun driving it thru PR hills. I was not allowed to take it to college and traded it for a VW…. I regret it!
This one looks too challenging for me….. The double barrel carb uses hydraulic oil….. Brakes are not to reliable… However, fun to drive!
these R what I brought back 50 yrs ago. Cant aford today;s system. Initial buyins too great. Gotta farm out the body wrk too (hand arthritis).
