First T-Top: 1975 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst Olds W25
Oldsmobile holds the distinction of being the first company to introduce T-Tops on a passenger car in the United States (excludes the Corvette which is a sports car). This 1975 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst Olds is listed for sale for $21,000 here on Craigslist. The car was a special edition based on the collaboration of Oldsmobile and Hurst Performance and this one is located just south of Lexington, Kentucky in Livingston. The ad was posted 3 days ago.
This interior of the Hurst Olds was really cool. It had swivel seats and a Hurst Dual Gate shifter. This car looks to be in nice shape. Some of the white door panels and seats have “yellow’d” a bit but it looks well maintained. All Hurst Olds were equipped with automatic transmissions. The 1975 Hurst/Olds came in two exterior colors – white and black. This car is a white W-25 Hurst/Olds with a white interior (black dash, carpet & console). Lots of GM cars were equipped with multi color interiors in the 1970’s. The Hurst Olds was designated with either a W-25 or W-30 badge which stands for the engine that was equipped with from the factory.
As explained in the ad, this particular Hurst Olds is a W-25 car which means that it left the factory with the Oldsmobile 350 cubic inch V8 engine. It had a stock horsepower rating of 170 horsepower. You can almost always tell an Oldsmobile engine when popping the hood because the oil filler tube is conveniently placed on the front of the engine. The other engine package that was available was the W-30 which came with the Oldsmobile 455 cubic inch V8 engine rated by the factory at 190 horsepower. Both engines were available with the TH400 automatic transmission.
There were 2,535 Hurst/Olds edition cars built in 1975. Of those, 1,293 were white and 1,242 were black. Slightly more W-25’s were built in 1975 (1,342) compared to the 455 equipped W-30 cars (1,193). This looks like a nice car that should sell quickly at this price. The original owner of the car owned it from 1975 to 1999. Upon her death, it has passed to one or possibly two owners. The ad states that the car has been garaged most of its life. The current owner bought the car from California and it still has the original owner’s blue license plates on the car.

A buddy of mine and I were getting ready to graduate from high school and managed some how to test drive one of these, just for the fun of it and although not a muscle car it was very nice. We got away with some stuff in the 70’s and 80’s. RIP Bob…
Incredible. I have been looking for a 75 Hurst Olds for probably 10 years. Imagine my surprise when two pop up in a week on CL. I am hoping to make a purchase of a California original paint zero rust 75 white H/0 in Mass. The price there is lower, but it has more mileage. The car I am looking at us a 455 model.
Slap an LS engine in it and sell it for $80,000 like the one the other day.
80k? What? Are you crazy? Come on!
This is a Hurst model. It should get at least 95k!
455 V8 pumps out 190 HP…wow
I love it…..t-tops off and smile as it’s not the same as every other pre-72 ..
Why the hood ornament!
I wonder what was the fastest of all the ’70s big mid size colonades.
Gotta be a ’73 454 or 455 … ?
The 170 hp is at the back wheels. Everyone forgets that. Bet it still pumps 250 at the crank.
