Father And Son Project: 1974 Dodge W200
Old Chevrolet C-10s and Ford F-100/150s seem to suck all of the air out of the old pickup truck collectibility room but there is an alternative and important player in this arena and that would be Dodge’s market participants such as this 1974 W200 Power Wagon. The mileage is undisclosed but this 4X4 shows as a sound and well cared for truck – ready to take on its next rugged adventure. Located in Bay Shore, New York, this red Ram is available, here on eBay for $5,101 with the reserve not yet met.
The seller laments, “It was a father-son project truck originally from California. It unfortunately needs to be sold“. As to what facets of this truck were part of the project is not disclosed but it sounds as if it has been resprayed, (only blemish on the truck is the passenger side clearcoat has faded and peeled). The seller claims that there is no rust present from “top to bottom” and the overall presentation is strong. Mentioned are numerous mechanical improvements and a roll bar and spray-in bedliner are now part of the show. I’m not certain about the origin of the wheels but they’re perfect for this truck and enhance its character.
Power is provided by a 360 CI “LA” V8 engine working through a four-speed manual transmission. The seller notes, “drives down the road very comfortably and the 360 sounds the part as well“. Added is, “New clutch, pressure plate, throw out bearing-new shift linkage kit, new front locking hubs, new drum brakes all the way around, new front and rear shocks, new full exhaust system front to back-truck, new carburetor, new battery, alternator, and starter, new sparkplugs and wires, new thermostat, and rear dif as well as transfer case recently flushed“. There’s a lot of “new” going on with this Dodge.
The interior is a simple, confined black vinyl environment and doesn’t give any indication of heavy wear or abuse. The carpet has been recently replaced and the door panels, dash, and instrument cluster are all in very very presentable shape. The steering wheel center, as well as the brake pedal pad, are both missing but that’s the only detraction that I can discern.
The seller concludes with, “Sad to see this go” but offers no particular reason for wanting to part ways – not that he needs to, of course. Dodge really, in my subjective opinion, nailed the styling on this edition of their tough Ram trucks, I’d like to encounter more as they’re a nice alternative to the ubiquitous Chevrolet, GMC, or Ford. No idea where the reserve is set on this Power Wagon but if you are considering an older full-size pickup, this would be one to watch. With all of the mechanical replacements that have been undertaken, I would imagine this Dodge is good to go as is, wouldn’t you agree?

Quite amateurist paint job over all the weatherstripping, and I think the tailgate handle. I have no idea how the brake pedal ended up red either. I hate spray in bedliner because so many use it to hide rust.

I haven’t figured out the pattern but some trucks left the factory with body color pedals. Was it a particular assembly plant, certain years, certain options that had the pedals installed before paint possibly, I don’t know.

I agree with everything you said. In my case I’m one of the few that say too bad it’s not an automatic. Yes I definitely know how to drive a manual. I’ve owned MANY. A manual and my arthritis are not friends unfortunately. I had one of these Dodges. Damn good, tuff truck and pretty simple too. Love them!
Having had a similar ’77 I’m biased in favor of these trucks. That being said I would look at this through the lense of what else could I get for the price that would serve the same purpose…
Something seems off here. If you have gone to all the trouble to redo the interior and exterior why would you not get a brake pedal pad and horn button? Both are needed for passing inspection in Mass. I like these trucks, however, I look for the later ones with disk brakes and shoulder belts. Many of the factory options from the Ramcharger will fit, like the factory tach and the extra gauges for vacuum and voltage, as well as other factory interior upgrades.
Looks like just the right truck to drive and enjoy. Need to haul? Need to tow? Here you are. Get a pad on that brake pedal and smile down the road.
Steering wheel touch both sides to dash. Look at door column is that where
a bullet might have hit ?? Looks like back glass is cracked, gasket on it sure is twisted at bottom.. brake pedal pad and gas pedal pad
Critics everywhere, show us your stuff so we can nit-pick it! Nothing you mention here makes sense. Steering wheel touch dash, bullet hole, twisted gasket? The so called crack you see is a reflection of the roll bar. Safety glass won’t crack, it explodes into thousands of tiny pieces. This is a damn nice truck for the price, people picking it apart like it just received a $50,000 restoration.
