Fuel-Injected 355: 1974 Chevrolet C10 Cheyenne Super
Most automotive enthusiasts would likely look at this 1974 Chevrolet pickup and simply assume that it’s a well-cared-for original or really nice factory restoration. Little would they know what would be found hiding underneath. Up for auction here on Bring a Trailer, this Cheyenne Super is going to make someone a very nice truck at auction’s end.
Popping the hood on this classic two-tone pickup would reveal what most would expect – a warmed up small block Chevy. Likely a 350, right? Wrong. This one boasts a fuel-injected 355 stuffed full of go-fast goodies. Thankfully, this auction listing offers up good information about the small block’s internals. Names like Edelbrock, Moroso, and MSD are sure to make lead-footers a little more excited. Cylinder heads, camshaft, and intake manifold are all brought to you by Edelbrock, while the forged pistons, H-beam connecting rods, and roller rockers come from a variety of other companies. At any rate, this one would be fun to drive and may surprise other drivers at the stoplight. Clicking the link to the auction site reveals a few videos of the pickup in action, which is nice for interested parties.
Outside of the programmable fuel-injection controller, this interior appears to be a clean and potentially original example. This listing overall doesn’t talk a lot about what’s original and what’s been refinished, but it wouldn’t be surprising if some pieces here have been restored or replaced. The odometer is said to read about 83k miles, which if true, adds a unique value to a vehicle that could have easily have had a lot more. This very well could have been a pickup that didn’t see a lot of hard use. As nice as the paint looks in the pictures, it’s likely been refinished at some point. The seller does state that there are touchups that can be found here and there.
It’s hard to imagine a new owner using this nice long-bed hauler for it’s original intended purpose. Hopefully, its preferred use will be weekend cruises and a great conversation piece at shows. There’s something so unique about a hopped-up powerplant covered up with a two-tone paint job and hubcaps. Some lucky bidder is going to get a really nice C10 to have fun in. Currently sitting at $5,100, where might this one up when the auction is done?

During the rebuild I maybe would have installed a 400 crank (383) and left the rest stock. Looks like a nice truck.

That is a beautiful pickup with some nice performance upgrades. Looks like a truck that needs nothing, it’s ready to enjoy. The two-tone paint is very attractive and the interior looks very nice. I like the stock look in and out, the builder did a great job with this resto-mod. Should bring good money, this looks about as good as any square body you could find.
Beautiful period color combo in and out. Unmolested ’73-’74 square bodies with presentable model year specific bits are getting scarce. Seller has more than 300(!) pics of this truck, finally someone has understood it! 👍
Hopefully all those go fast parts that are alleged to be inside the engine don’t equal in quality to the top of the line battery hold down bungee cord. Cool truck anyway.
Ha! Good one,,,the weakest link, and probably the most important. Batteries don’t do well flying into the fan.
Nice truck. I had a 73′, which is much the same. Only difference I can see is, mine had a step bumper, jack was different(cranks were the same), single back window and the “BOW- TIE” on the front grill was orange or yellow, not blue.
And drip rail mouldings. 73s didn’t have them, perhaps towards the end of the model year run they may have gotten them but virtually every 73 I’ve owned or seen didn’t have them. From 74 up they all had them.
David, my truck (73′) did not have them either. I did install them my self later from a junk yard donor.
