Fun Driver: 1971 Dodge Demon 340
The Dodge Demon was a brilliant idea. Make an fun, affordable car that looks sporty and had a unique name. Dodge offered the potent 340 cubic inch V8 engine in this car and it created quite a following. This example is located in Hamshire, Texas and looks to be in very good condition. The car is listed here on eBay and has one bid for $21,000. The Dodge Demon is being sold at no reserve which should attract a lot of interest. The auction ends in 3 days.
Dodge almost always offered unique interior patterns. This car is no exception with red plaid and black vinyl that contrast well with the exterior. The owner says he has had the car for about 20 years. An aftermarket tachometer is mounted to the roof pillar and besides the automatic transmission, the car does not have a lot of creature comforts. The owner states that the car was equipped with a 3.91 rear gear ratio which is very low and should make the car leap off the line or at least spin the tires.
The original 340 cubic inch V8 engine has been rebuilt with a high lift camshaft, Edelbrock torker aluminum manifold and Holley carburetor. The car has sat for 3 years and the owner recently rebuilt the carburetor and says that it runs fine. The gas gauge appears to not be working but the front suspension has been rebuilt with new ball joints and bushings. The 727 automatic transmission has been improved by adding a high stall torque converter.
The seller believes that he is the 3rd owner of this Dodge Demon over its 50 year life. The car has aftermarket Centerline wheels on the rear and rally wheels up front. The glass looks good and the owner even has some of the original paperwork. This should be a nice driver and there is not much in the ad about the paint other than the car has a few dings. The first bid seems high for a no reserve auction so I wonder where it will end up.

I had a coworker back in the day who had this exact car, except his had the hood scoops, and no rear spoiler, IIRC. Very basic, go fast…no power steering/brakes and no A/C. GLWTA!! :-)

Heater Blower Motor not painted correctly. Missing Windshield Washer bottle. and all plumbing for washer system The water pump looks like it has been replaced. The intake manifold has no paint as a factory manifold would. Red plaid material is not FACTORY ORIGINAL. Nowhere in factory literature is the interior referred to as PIZZA PARLOR” Can not identify aluminum colored box next to brake master cylinder. Can not identify rubber hose coming off engine oil canister running along passenger side inner fender. Would like to see a picture of dashboard to see if it has Rallye Cluster.
Article clearly states that the intake is an Edelbrock. And what a surprise that the water pump on a 51 year old car has been replaced. I’ll bet the drive belts and oil have been changed too. No doubt, the heater motor was replaced and the owner thought it would look good if it was painted body colour (along with several other items under the hood). Looking for a 95 point car? Not going to find it at $21k.

I think it’s a shill bid too but if the car is actually what it seems to be, it’s totally worth the money. Always loved these.
I like it,and would add power steering, and disc brakes in front, but no power assist needed in a light car like this,like the style, and agree with other comment about the early duster, which came 1st in 1970,they were sharp looking cars.
If its a true 340 Demon it will have Disc brakes up front . The A body 340 was the only car in the Rapid Transit System to have disc brakes as standard equipment

This is like the Mexican Super Bees however they all came with a stick shift and a 318.
I wonder what that would be bid up to in the US.
Super bee came with 360 too. A well restored one is expensive in Mexico and the typical restorations done in Mexico will not sell here for any money.
I have never seen a Mexican Super Bee with a 360 because that engine was not being produced in Mexico at the time and all cars were required to have a domestically produced engine.
All Mexican Super Bees have the 318.

I certainly do, and they are not selling for much compared to what V8 stick shift Dusters are selling for.
Anybody would be proud to show a Mexican Super Bee at a car show because nobody else would have one.
