Glas Garage Find: 1965 Glas 1300 GT
When we first saw this barn find we didn’t know what it was. We thought that perhaps it was an Italian or British sports car. We had heard of the Glas brand, but we didn’t realize that they built such attractive cars unlike their micro cars like the Goggomobile. Well after doing some research we learned a lot about this obscure German car manufacturer which produced some fairly attractive vehicles. This 1965 Glas 1300 GT barn find is quite rare and is located in Dacula, Georgia and is listed on eBay with a starting bid of $3,500.
The 1300 GT was Glas’ first attempt at building a true sports car, so they enlisted the help of Frua of Italy to design the car. The Frua design is very sleek and attractive, which was a drastic departure from the Goggomobile. This Glas is rough and is going to need a lot of body work, but the seller has most of the parts needed to restore this car. Thankfully the original dash is still in place because this could be a difficult piece to find. From what we can tell, this car was originally red and we think it would look great to return it to its factory color.
The 1300 GT is powered by this 1300 cc straight-4, which also looks to be completely original. We hope the engine turns, so the original block can be retained. When BMW bought Glas in 1967, they began fitting the 1300 GT with their own 1600 cc 4-cylinder, which increased performance and reliability. This pre-BMW take over Glas is extremely rare, with only an estimated 800 built and solid globally. We don’t imagine that many of these cars made it our way.
This Glas is going to need a full restoration, but it is a beautiful and very rare car. We would love to have this 1300 GT and we hope someone will get it back on the road again. We will be keeping an eye on this great little coupe.

There is another one sitting in a garage north of Chicago and south of the cheezeline. It is sharing space with a Wanderer convertible.
Hy DantheMan,I just came over this comment(after 8years)but I wander what Typ of Wanderer convertible shares space with a Glas GT in Chicago?Do you have a picture?
The owner we dealt with has passed away quite a while ago. No way to find out. It was a late 30s convertible.
This would be a neat car to restore & drive that’s not a lot of money and not a cliche.
Clean and beautiful. Someone’s gonna have a great project
Please give me the contact details on the Chicago location of the 1300GT please
@Ken – You can find the link to the eBay auction in the first paragraph.

could anyone enlighten me on the similarity in body between this and the ASA? both Bertone, but wondering whether they were actually the same body?
Not the same body.
The Glas was actually a Frua body made in Italy and the shells were sent to Germany for final drive train assembly (in the Dingolfing factory, which now is being used nby BMW).
I believe, though very similar in looks the ASA 100 actually was a bigger car.
Cheers, Horse
