Geneva Show Car: 1993 Bugatti EB 110

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Bugattis have a colorful history in almost any iteration, and the elaborate EB 110 was produced at a time when the company’s ownership was flirting with financial ruin. Despite this, the EB 110 remains one of the most sought-after supercars of the 1990s and has found favor with famous personalities like Michael Schumacher. This example here on eBay is a Japanese-market car that spent time on the Geneva show floor, and is listed for a cool $975,000.

Like almost every Bugatti, the EB 110’s body is an elaborate concoction of angles and shapes, with a rear spoiler that extends at speed, gullwing doors, and flat-faced wheels that undoubtedly helped maintain the car’s slippery profile. Like the modern-day Veyron, almost every engineering assignment revolved around combining speed with luxury and achieving class-leading standards in both categories. The seller notes this is the 30th of 85 car originally built.

The interior was spartan, compared to the company’s modern day efforts produced under Volkswagen’s ownership. The leather bucket seats were deeply bolstered and the wood trim certainly genuine wood, but otherwise you were met with acres of generic gray surfaces and ill-fitting panels. This was the penalty for purchasing a Bugatti at a time when the ownership group was already stretched thin, but at least the performance was still downright mesmerizing.

The EB 110 featured a 60-valve, quad-turbocharged V12 engine, mounted behind the driver’s head. Hearing that motor, fed by 12 ITBs and sending power to all four-wheels had to have been one of the best wake-up calls you could ask for before initiating your morning commute. Of course, given the price tag, I’m guessing none of the owners had an actual commute, but I’d sure as heck look for any excuse to go driving. The price is outrageous but so is the car, and you can bet it’ll be part of yet another collection soon.

Pretty sure I saw this same car a few years ago at a San Diego area cars & coffee. Expensive + exotic + high performance added up to underwhelming.

It looks like the car used in that horrible 1980’s movie, The Wraith, with Charlie Sheen.
