Garage Sale: 1948 Chevy Hot Rod Pick Up

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

I really admire the seller of this beautiful old hot rod pick up for sale on craigslist in Tucson, Arizona. And I like the truck he is selling too. This is a 1948 Chevy pick up that the current owner has had for fifteen years, and clearly it is a long time labor of love.

Over those many years, this truck has been heavily modified, and before the latest tear down, it was regularly driven.

According to the seller, the top has been chopped four inches, and the truck has also been lowered four inches. It is running what is now a more or less standard hot rod drivetrain combination, the ubiquitous Chevy 350 small block with a 350 turbo transmission.

The seller says it has “too many goodies to list,” but then goes ahead to list quite a few of them, including its maple bed, set of Dakota digital gauges, a Camaro Positraction rear, and air conditioning.

As the seller points out, his truck has been well equipped. He has had it on the road and at one time took it to shows. The seller says he has built it and taken it apart a couple times, all the while making changes and improvements.

As you can readily see from the photos provided, it’s currently a work in progress once again, running, according to the seller, but not driveable without a considerable amount of work. Maybe that’s a plus for its next owner, who will want to put his or her own stamp on the way this truck looks and drives the next time around.

The wiring is pretty plainly not completed. But the body and interior all look dry and rust free. Hopefully all the window glass comes with the truck as well.

The seller says he is still working on it a bit, but being headed in a new direction, is now cleaning out the garage. He still has all the literature on what he has in the truck and that the complete file will go with the truck to the new owner.

Given the prices of old pick up trucks these days, the seller’s asking price of $6,500 seems reasonable, especially considering everything that’s already there. And it sounds like his price is negotiable too. If the body is solid, all the parts are there to put it back together, and you have the skills and the time, this would be a fun project, don’t you think?

This good looking old hot rod seems a whole lot better than some of the junk that is being promoted as rebuildable nowadays. It definitely has the right look, and a whole lot of potential. At least for me, there’s a lot to like about this Chevy.

I like it and I’m a Ford truck guy. If all the parts are there to put it back together I think his asking price is reasonable. Just has that cool factor but it’s too far from me to consider.

A lot of money and mods sitting there. Someone will get a great deal.
Easy winter project if you just want to flip it, and a solid looking body if you have been looking for a keeper to restorod.
Many have paid much more for much less.

Jay, wait , did you just use the word flip? Next thing you know you’ll want to clear coat the patina. Just kidding . I’m in the process of ending a 30 year career in the auto biz to do just that. Some of these projects need a little help getting them over the hump to being drivers again. I’m hoping customers will see this and want to drive a classic again. I live in an area where people will buy a Harley for 15-20K just to ride two weeks a year. I’m hoping to fit in that niche somewhere.

Looks like a good head start on a nice truck, if the existing mods are well done and you don’t mind the reassembly work.

Looks like a good deal IF you were doing the work yourself and planned on keeping it.But as an owner of a 1950 F-1 that has alot of the same mods as this one, you will never recover what you put into it. For me, I don’t care, I’ll keep mine until I pass it down to my son. But if you’re looking for a quick flip, no way is this one going to make you money

The paint… besides having the look of an amateur job over less than great sheet metal work…. Is purple. Very.

Any interest in finishing to sell should include a consideration to a repaint in a more widely accepted color scheme. Oops, there goes the profit.

    I’d call that a bargain
