Dock Find: 1967 Amphicar 770

1967 Amphicar 770 Project

Here is a great project to finish over the winter and enjoy next summer. It is a 1967 Amphicar 770 and it is special because it can driven on the land and the water. Float on over to eBay to catch this one. It is located in Williamsburg Virginia and the bidding is only at $6,100 with the reserve met and six days remaining.

1967 Amphicar 770 Project Dash

This project is going to take a lot of work to get it sea worthy, err… road worthy, but it looks like a good start. The seller claims that the car has been in the family since the ’70s and that a restoration was started in the ’80s but was never completed. It was re-sprayed then and some work was done. The paint job does not look real professional, but if it is truly rust free like the seller claims, this could be a great find. Since these cars were built to take into the lake it can be hard to find one that is not rusted  out.

These cars were not particularly good at either of their roles, but they are very collectible today and can go for big money at the auctions. If this auction doesn’t go too crazy, we would be very tempted to pick this up, finish it, and actually take it to the lake to test out. It would be a blast to watch the looks of the fellow boaters at your local lake. Loading up at the docks would be a breeze too!

1964 Amphicar 770

Here is some inspiration for this project. This 1964 Amphicar sold for $44,000 at a RM auction in Fort Lauderdale. We love the boat influenced styling cues. It may not be one of the most beautiful cars ever built, but it has to be among the most unique! Anyone here ever experienced one of these in the open waters? We would love to hear about it!
