deVille’s In The Details: 1968 Cadillac Convertible
Straight outta Memphis is this 1968 Cadillac deVille convertible. It’s also a candidate for our ever-popular “What’s It Worth?” department here at Barn Finds. This fine brown ride appears here on craigslist. The asking price is $3,000.
The deVille convertible is a tried-and-true boulevard cruiser. This one may be a good deal because as a project car, it appears to have solid bones to work with. The seller states that it has just 83,000 miles and he says the 472 engine and transmission are “strong”.
Whatever the seller may lack in photography skills, he doesn’t make up for in descriptive ability, and these photos are definitely industry standard for Craigslist advertising. The single interior photo appears to show the front seat cover in good condition. As we all know, interior upholstery is a significant cost in project car renovations. So that’s one large chunk of change that might be saved by selecting this one. Part of that chunk of change will be spent on convertible top replacement though.
The paint, not so much. Many would elect for a color change on this car, and if it were mine, I would probably consider it. Fortunately, the interior color would work with many different options for the exterior. I might be getting old, because the original brown color on this car is starting to make sense to me. It’s just a thought.
Thankfully it isn’t too close, and my paddock is full right now, or I’d go get this one. While I was there picking it up, I would ask to borrow the seller’s trash can. In it, I would carefully and respectfully deposit the vintage K-Mart hubcap currently shown on the left front of the vehicle. Originals are cheap and easy to find. But beyond that, the body looks straight, at least what’s shown, and this looks like an interesting and easy project car. Clean it, paint it, top it, and go. The deVille is in the details. What do you think?

Hmm, relatively close to me, but not looking for a project right now. I believe that this is the first Craigslist ad I’ve seen with people in it.
All my friends know the low rider.
3k for a running and driving cadillac convertible seems like a good deal. Too bad I’m not in position to take on another project.
“Vintage Kmart” – Marty, you are a wordsmith
I just have to say that is really an ugly car, even with the great BROWN paint
Most likely the frame rails are rusted through. Was a problem with the Cad convertibles in the 60’s. It is a deal either way.
Perfect example of a #5 car…
Had one of these back in the early 80’s. Maroon with the same parchment interior. What a great cruiser. We drove from Pa. To Ocean City MD on weekends, and it turned heads then. Would get alot of attention today. This one needs help and restoration on any Cadillac is EXPENSIVE, but at $3k if the interior is good and mechanicals are sound this could again be a great cruiser. I would ditch the brown though, it never was a popular color.
Put a white top on it, paint it resell red, bright red, Flipper City Motor Sales baby, ask me how I know.
3 pictures…..

Who knows what evil lurks in the hearts of the frame rails? The Shadow knows…
