EXCLUSIVE: 1937 Chevrolet Master Romanian Find
Reader Mihai G recently moved this Chevrolet Master from his father-in-law’s property, where it had been parked for a number of years. It’s rough but could be restored or used as a parts donor. It’s located in Romania, so that might be a bit of an issue if you live in the States, but one of our European readers might want to take a closer look at this old Chevy. What Makes It Special? The car was bought by my father-in-law in 1989 from a consignment. Prior to that, it belonged to someone who left România for good right before the Revolution. I have the purchase invoice but unfortunately, I don’t know the name of the first owner. Since then it was kept in front of my father-in-law’s house, unused until I found it. That is why it’s in the state that it is. I brought it to my house, which is in Cluj, România. It’s pretty much all I know. If you have any questions, please let me know! It’s a Chevrolet GA series, SED 2, chassis no. BA805/5. In ’37, the Master replaced the Standard Six. The GA series is indicated on the inside plate (picture 2 and 3). Sadly, the engine is not working. I do have the original Romanian invoice.
Body Condition: It’s a barn find with rust issues, but it’s mostly complete.
Mechanical Condition: The engine isn’t running, so I can’t say what condition the rest of the drivetrain is in.

“Antwerp” on one plate indicates it was assembled in Belgium. The stories this car could tell. It may have seen service under the Germans, there’s photos online showing ’39 Chevs that way.
Probably built from a CKD kit at GM’s Antwerp plant.
This Chevy’s story might be of much more interest than the car itself – I mean someone high society folks must have owned this car pre-war.Probably also during the war unless it was seized by the Wehrmacht. I’m almost tempted to believe the hand-painted rectangular square on the left front fender could be some ad-hoc tactical marking.
And who owned it during the communist years…?

I had some wise crack response, but this is actually kind of sad, that this “big bucks for rusty hulks” silliness has gotten so out of hand, it’s spreading around the world. Can’t blame them, really, they see stuff in this country advertised for a fortune, and what they might see on TV and figure now’s the time for riches. Honestly, this, to me, is a new low for the hobby.

No offense to the Romanian’s but I think really, it’s the bottom portion of an oil bath air cleaner.
He should have said the previous owner was from the Dracula family, then he could have a better chance of getting his asking price.
Looks like it might be a ’37 Standard. It has Standard bumpers and seems to have a beam axle in front instead of knee action. Would be a good start as sheet metal appears to be all there and in good shape.
Yes, metal is in good shape. It is a good start for a project. Could be a standard, I am not sure
I read GA on the begining of the chassis number : series GA are Master DeLuxe for 1937 (Master are GB series).
‘SED L’ on the model name (a specificity for the Antwerp build Chevy apparently) could indicate a Sedan DeLuxe too.

I’m pretty fond of this era of design… But if this were in the U.S…. It be in a scrap yard.
I suppose the doors and hood are good donors.. but there’s plenty of them in much nicer shape.
