EXCLUSIVE: 1961 Imperial Southampton

Back in June, we featured John C’s Imperial that you see above. It ended up selling quickly to Reader Jim O, who had it shipped to his home in Connecticut. He got it running and started working on making it roadworthy. Unfortunately, health and family challenges mean he needs to cut it loose. He wants to it go to a fellow reader who can finish what he started and get this beauty back on the road. It’s currently located in Deep River, Connecticut and comes with some new parts to help get it back on the road. Jim is asking $5,500 and can be contacted via the form below.

From Jim – Hi Everyone. This is the next chapter in this Imperial’s saga. As you know it was listed here on Barn Finds and I purchased it. Things have changed here with health and family challenges, thus I’m putting it up for sale.

It’s still in the same condition as it was when it was removed from its slumber in NY. It now runs though. I installed a new fuel pump as well as a new fuel pickup/sender unit. Appears to run fine now!!! With the car on jack stands the transmission shifts in all gears but I not driven the car. The brakes need a lot of work but I have purchased new cylinders and hoses that aren’t installed but will go with the car.

I have removed the old remaining smelly carpet, inventoried the components that came with it. Are they all there? I would say mostly there but I’m sure some things are missing. I really think that someone could get this car back on the road relatively easily with some motivation and maybe help from some friends. The paint job that was applied almost 20 years ago, but I believe it would polish up beautifully. The prior owner had the seats reupholstered, so put back together this would be a really nice looking cruiser. That’s what turned me on about the car. Take a look at the photos and let me know if you have any questions!

It’s always tough when unplanned life events throw a wrench in a great project like this! It looks like Jim actually did quite a bit of work, all things considered. While it might not seem like a big deal, knowing the engine is running well is a major plus. It’s also nice to have more detailed photos of the car and parts. There was a ton of interest in this Imperial the first time we listed it, so if you missed it then, here’s your chance!

Hope the health and family issues are taken care of soon.
Good luck on selling the car and to the new buyer. It looks like a great purchase for the right person. What’s not to like about a land yacht? Hope it get’s back on the road soon.

Very sorry Jim that ‘life’ tossed a wrench at you; you sound like you were fully intending to bring this beauty back on the road. I will cross my fingers someone who sincerely appreciates this vintage Imperial can fully restore it, and bring back the glory it originally had. Best of luck, sir!
