For most manufacturers, the muscle car era ended with the 1973 oil crisis, but there were a few holdouts that tried to keep the flame alive. The Firebird Trans Am is probably the most recognizable of these holdouts. They might not have the grunt of pre-1973 muscle cars, but Pontiac made sure they had plenty of torque and enough over the top looks to be eye-catching. Being featured in Smokey and the Bandit certainly didn’t hurt either! Today, demand for late ’70s examples is on the rise and reader Anthony G’s example checks all the boxes. What Makes It Special? This car has never left a little town of 3k people in Leechburg, PA in its 40+ years of existence. The car was purchased in Leechburg from a Pontiac Dealer by the name of Kiski Valley Services, they closed shop in the early ’80s. The car has only had three owners since new, I am the third owner. I have all of the paperwork, warranty, owners manual, undercoating documentation, and 1979 brochures. When I bought it, I only put about 250 miles, yes only 250 miles, or about 50 miles a year. It’s in highly original condition with original floor mats, undercoating, spare tire, and paint making this car a true survivor. The color combo is rare with the black with red interior and red/orange Bird. The only item that is not original are the wheels. The original Rally II wheels were replaced with Red Bird wheels due to one rim having been bent and the original owner replaced them with these great looking Snowflakes rims. The car is PHS certified

Body Condition: The car is in excellent shape, paint is still glossy, the engine compartment is clean, the underside is undercoated from back in 1979. The exhaust, I believe, is still original the left muffler looks like it had been spot welded but that’s it. The trunk is immaculate with original stickers on the trunk lid, space saver tire, and tire inflator. The car also has an emblem delete on the rear gas lid. The driver’s window has a few scratches and window weather stripping has a minor crack due to age. I have a replacement window and weather stripping but I have not replaced them as I didn’t want to risk damaging the door panels.

Interior Condition: The interior is pristine with original floor mats, no stains or tears in seats, carpet or headliner. The interior is all matching carmine red interior carpet, seats, steering wheel and with color match seat belts (which is rare). Interior clock still works. The car has power windows, tilt steering, AC, rear defrost and cruise control.

Mechanical Condition: Excellent mechanical operation with no issues with starting, gear shifting and so on. The car is equipped with the L80 403 Cu in 6.6 litre V8 engine paired to an automatic. The only thing on the car that doesn’t work is the air conditioning, it runs but blows warm air. Other than that this beast it still runs strong and will lay 100′ of rubber any day. A real fun car to drive. It would be good to pass this to a new owner so they can enjoy it more than I have. I have the clean title in hand and am looking to get a firm $27,500 for it.
