EXCLUSIVE: 1977 Volkswagen Beetle Convertible

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

Cosmetically, things really didn’t change much for the VW Beetle Convertible over the 30 or so year run. Sure, they changed things like the bumpers, but the real changes took place in the interior and the engine bay. While most collectors prefer earlier cars, if you are looking for a Beetle to actually drive, one like Reader John C’s is a better option. These later cars were more comfortable, easier to drive and most importantly had more power. This one hasn’t been on the road for a while, but was still running just 2 years ago. If you’d love to get it back on the road you can find it in Bethany, Connecticut and you can contact John via the form below.

What Makes It Special? Clean and original. It has had two owners. There are new tires and a new fuel tank. I drove it two years ago and it ran well. It has been stored indoors while not in use.

Body Condition: It is going to need new floor panels. It still wears its original paint.

Mechanical Condition: This Bug features the 1600 fuel injected engine, which ran two years ago.

This could be a fun project and a great warm weather driver. If you’d love to have this Bug, be sure to contact John via the form below!

Injection system gave John Muir (the VW guy, not the naturalist) headaches. That would be the first thing I would check. If it was pre 1975 I would be interested, as CA authorities don’t require original smog equipment on 1974 and older cars.

Needs floor pans for a convert is a wide open loaded statement. They have heavy duty rails that run the entire length of the heater channels. If the heater channels are bad, odds are the support rails are done as well. VERY costly to replace! Thanks,

A lot! Floor pans usually mean rails replaced. Very expensive on a very. No one alive can work on that fuel injection. Need to replace. Not worth that price.
