EXCLUSIVE: 2013 Boss 302 With Only 317 Miles!
This may be newer than what we normally feature, but it could be the perfect future find! This low-mileage Boss 302 is the kind of car you want to find stashed away in another 30 years. It has been in storage since new and is only showing 312 miles on the odometer. It’s located in Grass Valley California and Don would like to get $45,000 for it. Ford brought back the Boss 302 name in 2012 and it wasn’t just an appearance package! The original Boss 302 set the bar quite high for it’s modern successors, but I think these new versions do it justice. This 302 offers up 444 horsepower and 380 pounds of torque, that’s some serious power for a street going Mustang. All that power is then piped through a 6 speed manual and a 3.73 geared rear end. All the various performance goodies add up to a 4.2 second dash to 60, but don’t worry Ford worked the suspension over so it can handle the corners as well! Oh and did I mention that it can do all this while still being able to hit 26 mpg on the highway?
Inside, we have a nice set of Recaro seats, a Alcantra wrapped steering wheel and a nifty short shifter. Given that it only has 317 miles on the clock, this one is still like new. I bet it even still has that new car smell! I’ve spent some time behind the wheel of this generation of Mustang and it’s a great place to be. I know it isn’t a classic pony car, but think, you won’t have to do anything to this one and everyone you know will want to go out for a ride in it (that is if you let anyone ride in it).
I know, this really isn’t the typical barn find, but this is the kind of car many of us will dream of finding some day. Restoring one will probably be a nightmare, given all the electronics and exotic materials, so you will definitely want to buy the nicest and lowest mileage example you can find (preferably one that hasn’t been left out in the sun). While I’m sure there will be people who get excited to pull a Prius out of a barn, I guarantee this is the one that will still be getting our hearts pounding in 20 years! So will you be locking this one away as a long term investment or will you put some miles on it first?

I think you guys know this, but I have a 2013 Boss 302 (school bus yellow rather than gotta have it green like this one). It’s my adult toy, and it’s what finally got me to stop driving Triumphs every day.
There is *no* other car like it. It will be the last car I own–if I ever hit really hard times and have to sell everything else, this will be the one I keep. Period.
Fell in love watching the Bud Moore Mustang )(in school bus yellow) win a Trans Am race at Mid Ohio in 1970. Dad had a 1969 fastback and that was it. 43 years later I finally got mine.
If you’ve never driven a 2012-2013 Boss 302, you owe it to yourself to try one. Trust me, it is different. And this one is worth every penny, especially if the Track Key has been activated (it was about $300 when the car was new; the certificate to do one now just sold for $5,500 on eBay). This one has the Recaros, which means it also has the Torsen diff. Only other options available were floor mats and a matching car cover.
And yes, the GT350 & GT350R are faster now. Still not the same. Think of the Boss 302 as the ultimate traditional Mustang.
Ok, off soapbox now. Whomever buys this car will love every minute they drive it. Trust me!
Track Key certificate? Is that authorization to get into the computer tune?
It’s a separate tune accessible by a different key that changes a LOT of parameters. Theoretically, you’re not supposed to use it on the street…wink wink!
I dont understand? Ford won’t activate the track key anymore? You have to spend $5000?
From what I have heard, only the certificates that have already been issued can be used, and you have to send your ECU to Ford to have it activated. However, this is all second hand info from forums. One of the certificates just sold for $5,500 on eBay.

Nice Jamie! I wanted one of these so badly when they came out. Some journalists claimed that the suspension tuning was so good that it felt like it had irs. Maybe someday!
This is my ’12, and 9th different Mustang. Probably the one I’ll stay with. I agree with all the kudos. But mine is for driving. I was too concerned with keeping the miles down/resale value on the previous ones. This car is just too much fun to sit idle, but you could listen to the factory side pipes that way ! A lot of people are now aware of the differences between the Boss and the GT.
I’ll add that mine has the sweetest exhaust note I’ve ever heard! Not that I’m biased or anything…

I wholeheartedly agree. A co-worker of mine picked up at 2012 Kona Blue with 2200 miles on it. I’ve driven it a few times and it is such a well-sorted car. Even with the live axle in the back, there so much poise and sure-footedness that it’s almost shocking. You can feel bits moving and bouncing around underneath a regular Mustang GT, but the Boss is really planted no matter what.
(School Bus Yellow is the best color too.)
Since it’s already sat for four years, I’d say let it sit for another 26 or so.
Love the yellow one but would still like the green one. I would only drive it to our Sonics cruise night every Friday evening. Thankfully it’s only 3 blocks from my house so not many miles added to the odometer but will keep the fluids moving and everything lubricated.
JW, it’s interesting — I have the ’13 in SB Yellow, and racing friends of mine have ’13’s in Grabber Blue, Red & the Gotta Have It Green as above. It’s weird, because we all arrived at the decision to buy independently. All we need is someone to have one in white join the group and we have every color of standard 2013 boss by ourselves (note, Laguna Secas were in different colors).
Jamie today’s my birthday and thought I could talk the wife in to this as a present since I bought her the 70 Mach1 for a 25th wedding anniversary present but she didn’t care for the color so maybe I can find a white one. You have a great looking car.

JW, you say that now about driving it only 3 blocks, but once you get in it and fire it up, you’ll change your mind. I’m lucky to be the caretaker of a GHG 13 with 15K miles on her. Mine has never seen rain and babied. Some folks don’t know it, but these cars come stock with the identical U-code engine that came in the Boss 302R race cars which won the continental tire series championships. Two things… that says a lot for a streetcar and it’s got to have a lot more normally aspirated ponies in her with the right tune. Driving the car with the with the track key initiated is like a totally new experience. The changed parameters turn the motor into a beast. Like the sound now? Wait to you hear the track key idle that makes the engine lope lope lope. Sitting in the car it shakes. The exhaust note is intoxicating. Engine brake is added and the power curves are changed dramatically. So is the fuel economy. But it’s worth it. You sit much lower and feel more planted than a GT with the Recaro seats. When I bought mine, I test drove it against a Roush Stage 3… no comparison. The Boss is a country road scalpel with much less body roll. The only weak links on these cars are the stock clutch and 2 piece drive shafts. That aside, if you find one well taken care of, don’t hesitate. Here’s mine.

I have to disagree with you. We’ve featured newer cars in the past, all the way back to the founding days of the site. When we started the site our focus was pretty much just low mileage survivors. Rusty projects are fun to look at and dream about, but let’s be honest here, a low mileage car like this is so much better to buy and own. Is it a classic? I’m sure there are plenty of people that would say it isn’t, but then again what makes a classic “classic”? Is it purely the age of the car or that it’s something special that you actually want to drive? I think people need to get over the age of the car and focus on what makes it special. It might not be “old” but this car is definitely a classic in the sense that it’s something truly special.
Ok, that’s cool, but, on that premise, I’m misunderstood what “Barn Finds” is/was all about. I had a similar discussion with the editor of a certain classic car site concerning newer cars. Oddly enough, he said pretty much the same thing. While I can’t disagree with anything you say, it’s not why I’m here, and I don’t think I’m alone. If I want 2013 Mustangs, I’ll go to a site that deals with nothing but. Most of us here will never be able to afford something like this, not now, not in 20 years, but a plausible project for 1/10th of what this costs, that’s why I’m here. When I see stuff like this pop up on cool sites like BF’s, it tells me, we’ve either covered all the bases, or BF’s is branching out, which is totally understandable, just not for me. I’d rather see some oddball WW2 army vehicle here than this. Scotty, HELP!!!!
I agree. And there’s a simple/obvious solution if one doesn’t like the featured car. Is this really that big of a deal? I probably delete half BF emails I get because I’m not interested. But I’m also okay if one disagrees, so fire away!
imho your definition of classic is way off the mark but each to their own – it certainly feels more like car trader to me. a special eds version of a mass produced vehicle, could be called a classic as its the top of its class – but thats not really how we use english language to denote something which is classic, we use ‘time’ and percievable history as the main factors for denoting classic status of anything, cars, music (classic rock) whatever. if you look at production numbers, 3550 Boss models in 2013, and 1000 Roush models oh and the laguna seca model too thats another 700 plus the 77,000 other models produced that year. Likewise seeing a new ferrari or even a five year old one doesnt deserve classic nomenclature as its status in the car world is still unconfirmed – prime example is the ferrari 355, its not considered a classic its a fairly mass produced, sports car – but not a classic, maybe come back in 20 years and have another look.
And with that im out, its been fun BF, but after 5 years i figure its time to go, i didnt sign up for ‘2013’ barn finds, and it sounds like that idea is here to stay but good luck to you all.

Agree. But I also had a yellow ’70 Boss. Today I have a ’12 Boss. Different worlds, both awesome cars.
If financial gain is the goal , put your $45,000 in a good diversified mutual fund for 30 years . Use the garage space for something you can drive and enjoy .

As a car enthusiast I enjoy looking at all cars. This Boss is my favorite color Gotta Have It Green, it would look right at home in front of my house. I have no problem with new classics being shown next to old classics and project cars. I love them all. I’d like to see more photos of the Edsel wagon! I wonder if it’s for sale?

As great as these Boss mustangs are I just don’t see them being a good future investment. Cars are getting better and more powerful every year and 20 years from now the base mustang GT will probably have 500 hp.
Mine is an investment in one thing only: my quality of life. After I’m gone, whomever is left can worry about that…
Good luck with the 45K ask. This GHIG color is not popular and they sat on the lot. I saw them advertised new for 10K less. For not a whole lot more you get a new GT350.
I do agree, they are a lot of fun to drive.

The Edsel is a 1959 Villager Wagon, 332 cu. in eng. with 35,000 miles, it even has air. Its a fun car but not as much fun as the Boss, I purchased the Boss for an investment. My fun car is a 2007 Shelby GT
Jamie, Nice car. I rented a 2014 gt mustang and as a old school classic car guy-it changed my whole outlook of newer performance cars. That gt was fast and stuck to the road. It had a track mode that I put in use and would not disengage,dont know what I did,lol.
The boss 302 and the shelbys ect. are much faster I,m sure. love to try one.
Last week I test drove a 2013 ss Camaro w/ a 6.2 6pd and liked it also. One my bucket list to rent next is the dodge challenger it has to be the hot one though.
These performance cars are hard to rent as its a special deal with hertz. It took me 6 months to get in line to rent the gt mustang. They sent it from Texas to Stop correcting “washington” state for me and then it went to Oregon next. Only a few where available. I felt lucky to get it-not cheap those.

When I purchased my Boss I traded in a 2010 Challenger RT and it was a real nice car and it was fast (in a straight line) it could never corner as well as the Boss or the 07 Shelby. Thanks
