EXCLUSIVE: Documented 1971 Dodge Super Bee
Reader Roger C found this Super Bee parked in the back in the back of the previous owner garage, where it had spend the past 20 years. It turned out, the car had been featured in the February 1993 issue of Mopar Collector’s Guide and comes with documentation from today back to when it was new! At some point in it’s past, it was repainted and a new vinyl top was installed, so it looks great, and the drivetrain is well sorted to ensure it runs great as well. Roger has had his fun with it and has decided to move it along. You can find it in St. Paul, Virginia with a $38,500 asking price.
The biggest change is under the hood. This car original shipped with a 383, but in 1992 it was fitted with a period-correct 440 that was blueprinted and upgraded a bit. It runs great and pulls strong. Roger has replaced the starter, radiator, water pump, belts, hoses, and the battery. He also had the tired transmission swapped out for a fresh 4-speed automatic from SilverSport Transmissions, along with a new driveshaft. While he was at it, he replaced all the torsion bars and springs, sorted the power steering system, and upgraded the drum brakes to discs with stainless brake lines. It’s currently equipped with a 3:55 gearing, so it should cruise comfortably on the highway.
Inside this Bee, things are looking well sorted and ready to go! Roger notes that this is some slight wear showing on the driver’s side armrest, but the interior is in otherwise excellent condition. The dash is crack-free, the carpets are nice, the headliner is good, and the seats are in great shape. There’s no word on whether the stuffed bee is included though.
This really is a great looking machine! While it has been repainted, Roger is confident that the metal underneath is all original and in great shape. He states that the floors and trunk are like new with the quarter panels and rockers being in very good condition. Other than a few chips to the paint, this Mopar looks to be in pristine condition. Nice Bee…..
Yes please!!!!
Sigh. I guess I would have to yank that damn automatic out and install a manual. Nice car though.
Paint and body looks real good!! Nothing much else to do on the car but push your right foot to the floor!!! Oh and smile!!
Looks like a lot of fun to drive, the 440 will set you back in the seat hard. Actually a very good looking car overall, especially compared to that Orange Road Runner the other day.
Good looking car. Many a person would love to have that in their garage.
Get it while it’s hot! You just don’t find them this clean, under the hood needs freshened-up but looks like a solid classic and very desirable Mopar!
BEAUTIFUL and fast!
Too much trouble to roll it out of the garage for some decent pictures?
My very favorite body style of Charger, and would love to have it in my garage. However, first thing, I would to have the paint removed from the bumpers. I’m a chrome kinda guy.
Non-original “everything”????? Looks good but for the asking price, nah…..
I have all of the original parts except for the motor that the previous owner sold. They all go with the car. All parts replaced except for the brakes are direct from Mopar.
Did you purchase the car from the owner of the Chevy dealership in Vermont or New Hampshire?
Yes I did. Vermont. I had admired it for years but he was asking too much for it since it needed serious cash input to revive it to driveable. Once his son decided to attend medical college and high tuition became a reality I was able to talk him into a reasonable price. I spent a lot of time and money bringing the “beast” back to life. I have much more in it then it’s worth but these cars need to be driven, not hidden away. I have enjoyed this car very much but my shop is small and my want list is long. I need to move it on so that a certain 1957 Ford and a 1969 AMX can move in. A reasonable offer would help this happen.
