Estate Vehicle: 1971 Ford LTD Convertible
I’m a little partial to this car. My first car was a 1971 Ford LTD, although it was a 2 door hardtop. Wouldn’t it have been nice riding around in a convertible when I was 16? Here is a 1971 Ford LTD Convertible for sale here on Craigslist in Winchester, Oregon. I could not find that on the map but the seller has an Oregon area code phone. Thanks to Barn Finds reader J. L. for bringing this car to our attention.
In 1971 Ford LTD departed a little from previous years with their rectangular taillights and went to a segmented full-width taillight borrowed from the 1969 and 1970 Mercury Marquis (the Marquis continued this light pattern in 1971). The LTD also added ribbed rocker panel molding with a chrome side molding above it. The paint is not original but looks pretty good, except for an area near the right rear fender extension. The top is in excellent condition. This LTD has had the same owner for the last 20 years who purchased it from the original owner.
From the only interior picture, it looks to be in good condition. The car has air conditioning and power windows. The seats are covered in white vinyl with a full-width front bench seat. The dash and carpeting are black.
No engine picture is included but the car is powered by a 351 cubic inch V-8. It starts and runs good and only has 21,841 miles. The seller says the car has a major price reduction and is currently $7,000. That seems to be quite a reasonable price for a seventies full-size convertible in this condition. Are you ready to anticipate next spring and summer driving around in this LTD Convertible?

Also had a 1971 Ford LTD growing up, a pillared hardtop, my mom’s car, that I drove to high school my junior year.
What I noted from the listing is that the bottom trim on the driver’s door is whiter (assume it might be hard plastic) than the trim on the upper trim panel and there appears to be a blanket of some sort on the front, lower seat cushion.
If I didn’t just buy a Jeep Grand Cherokee, I might have made a run on it for sentimental reasons. I agree the price seems fair if it runs as well as the seller states. It’s the kind of car, that after a complete safety check and change of fluids if necessary, I’d have no issue flying in and driving home.
The car is in Roseburg, OR, just off of I-5 north of Grants Pass. It was posted on the Sacramento, CA Craigslist.
Do you know if there’s contact information to buy the car?
What’s not to like? Got to be tons if parts available for cheap if anything needs fixing. Good looking car, good price, just needs a buyer in a sunny environment to show it off. I don’t see how you could go wrong unless the blue oval insults your bow tie.
Winchester is just north of Roseburg.
Not every convertible looks good with the top up or down. These just nail it. Also, a white top is just “aces” with white seats. I don’t think cars this big will ever be fashionable again and that is just another reason to get it.
I had one of these for years in green on green on white.
I had a lot of fun with it.
If any of you know the road from Vegas to LA, I would take my car on that trip often.
One particular time I took a friend from Vegas with me.
We were on Pearblossom highway going through the whoop-de-dos. Those of you that know will get this.
We were driving at night and I don’t think there was a moon out that night.
When I came to the fist dip, I shut off the lights, pitch black, and accelerated. My friend freaked out and sparks flew from the chassis.
Yeah, good times.
My “whoop de doo” moment came with my blue 71 convert (documented elsewhere). When my youthful curiosity got the better of me and I went “off roading” at a construction site. What I thought was chert between me and our church paved parking lot was actually inches of soggy mud. All of my buddies got a laugh out of how lousy the full size Ford was in maneuvering through the bog and helped me rock it out before our youth pastor noticed my boneheaded move.
Sold one of these many years back at an estate sale,it was yellow with a white interior and top. The guy had won it in a nation wide drawing put on by a major oil company to promote their service stations, think it may have been Shell. It was ultra low mileage, completely original, fully documented, very close to perfect. Can see it like it was yesterday.
I had a ’70 XL conv., special ordered in grabber blue, with a 429/375 eng, white leather buckets, AC, 52k orig miles, hidden headlights. Sold for $7k in ’03 to a guy in New Hampshire. Once parked in the garage of a ‘new’ home I bought in ID, had to climb over the console to get out the passenger side as 1/4″ gap between rear bumper & garage door! Pulled in up front till hit the pipe guarding the furnace!
There was no 375 HP 429 available in the ’70 XL. The top motor was the 429/4V Thunderjet which had 360 HP.
Seller says front seat is covered because of hot seats in summer and he will not take $6000 for it! I tried I realy did but Momma says that is all she will let me have HA! HA!
If what Beaver Prince says is true, then the only way is to stand up to the price as asked and jump on the car. If the mileage is correct, you get a Prince.
ha ha ha!!!
That’s a steal for a nice convert of that vintage and style !
Looks like the sled McGarret pulls up in to deliver the line: “Book ’em Dano.”
Dude could’nt be bothered with the details:

I need to stop looking at Barn Finds. Whenever a deal like this comes along I start thinking that I have enough room for one more car (4 now plus a motorhome) and then start thinking road trip. With Christmas in the books I could seriously make a detour after my Fresno trip and buy another car. I need help………..
A low-mileage drop-top in good condition for $7,000? This is a nice car for the money, you would think somebody will snap this up pretty quick. I like the ’71-’72 Galaxies; large, comfortable cars that can still be found with good options and for decent prices; like this one. Probably the 351 is a Windsor; adequate performance but lots of speed parts available if you wanted to go that route.
I have no money, no room for it and it’s 3,054 miles from me. Crap! I’m out.
very nice car , curious however why the passenger side windows are not down in some of the photos… …?????
