Blank Slate! Cheap 1972 Chevrolet C-10

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

How about a classic truck for less money than a new refrigerator? I love the honesty of this thing. What we have here is certainly considered a survivor as well as a blank slate. This 1972 long bed two wheel drive half-ton truck is waiting for someone with a little bit of cash and a whole lot of dreams. It’s located on the north side of Orlando, Florida for only $2,500!

If it were mine, I’d shorten the bed, lower it, and put some nice wheels and tires on it. Personally, I wouldn’t bother with cutting the frame and wouldn’t do the air suspension thing either. I would get an upholsterer to go to work and have them take a bunch of leather to the insides. Of course, the entire drivetrain would need to be replaced entirely as well. When complete, it could possibly be worth 20 times the seller’s original asking price.

The beautiful thing about these old Chevys is that there is massive aftermarket support. If you have a VIN and a title – literally every other component on this truck is available to you brand new. No junkyard needed. Reproduction sheet metal, interior bits, trim, chrome – all of that is out there. Of course it will cost you, but at least there will be no worries from the availability standpoint, you are all set.

This example looks tired but amazingly complete. Under the hood it appears stock except for the air cleaner. Naturally, there is a small block Chevy resting between the fenders and a THM 350 transmission behind that. The seller says that it is currently not running and that the truck does have some rust. The seller also mentions moving out of state and that the C-10 cannot come along. Maybe make an offer? If you know a buyer, you might double your money without even having to touch it. Are you up for the challenge? Find this truck here on craigslist where it’s listed for $2,500.

Author is correct you can get most anything for these. Had a 70 myself, it was also a long bed. But a very good truck and used it as one a few times. That bed floor could be a problem, most everything else looks to be there, can roof is intact, big plus. Good luck to the new owner, should provide many hours of fun! Drive em don’t just show them.

Sweet truck. I just wish the seat went back further. They don’t work for people with long legs.

Jay; fortunately, it’s not yours to ruinate.
How ‘bout get it running and enjoy it. Or, do a resto- long or short box-but don’t hack the tail of of the box and stick bags under it. Tacky.

How are you going to shorten the bed without doing anything with the frame? Just curious

An often overlooked attribute of a truck like this its that it can easily be road worthy in today’s traffic. No need to cut, chop, weld, wire, ad nauseum. A small block and an automatic transmission bolt in all set to go.

Good luck shortening the bed without cutting the frame. As for being worth 20 times the asking price that can also be the cost to resotre should someone want to go that route. Rust is present and who knows how deep it runs, bed, passenger door, fenders, cab corners, floors, drip rails etc. It’s priced well but it’s not a steal unless your plan is to do nothing but get it running.

Not sure why the seller just didn’t remove the ad after selling it – it is super simple to do.

Instead, they just changed the test to “Vehicle has been sold.”

Perhaps they’ve “shook hands” but no money has passed between them so far.

Sorry to be harsh, but that entire paragraph about what the author would do with this vehicle reads like it’s written by someone with no knowledge of what it takes or what it costs to execute a custom build.
