Big Block 1966 Chevrolet Corvette Sting Ray Coupe

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

While this 1966 Corvette’s odometer shows 47,000 miles, the car is widely traveled in a slightly more unusual way than you would normally expect. It rolled off the production line in St. Louis, Missouri, before finding its way all the way to Italy. It spent years in storage there before making the trek back to North America, where it was placed into a private collection. It is now sitting in Mono, Ontario, Canada, and is on the lookout for another new home. You will find the Corvette listed for sale here on eBay where bidding currently sits at $47,600, with the reserve not met.

This Corvette is not some nicely restored museum piece, because it is said to be an original survivor. The years in storage and in the private collection have resulted in a car that is nicely preserved. The body and Ermine White paint look really nice, and the owner says that the body still has all of the original bonding. He also states that the Corvette has never had any corrosion or any accident damage. The external trim and chrome look good, as does the tinted glass. The original knock-off wheels also look to be in great condition, and while they wear a fresh set of Gold Line tires, the original tires are bagged up and will be included in the sale.

The original theme for the Corvette continues under the hood because it is a full, numbers-matching car. The 427ci, 390hp L36 engine has undergone a rebuild to original specs so that the car could return to active duty. Spent gases from that monster engine then find their way to the outside world via the original side pipes. That 427 is backed by an M20 4-speed transmission, and a 3.36 Posi rear end. The original order sheet makes interesting reading because it shows that you also get power steering, power brakes, and air conditioning. The car is now a running, driving classic, and all of the original parts are included in the sale.

The owner claims that the interior trim color combination is unique, which would technically make the Corvette a 1-of-1 car. However, I have been able to find other ’66 models with this combination, so while the interior is nice, it isn’t unique. The combination of Bright Blue and White looks pretty stunning. The condition is hard to fault, and in addition to that trim combination and the previously mentioned air conditioning, the car is also fitted with power windows and that gorgeous teak wheel.

If this 1966 Corvette Coupe was even a basic spec survivor, it would command a pretty healthy value. When you add in the list of desirable options such as the 427ci engine, factory air conditioning, the teak wheel, and the side pipes, this becomes a pretty special car. The reality is that the combination should easily push the value into the six-figure territory. It’s a lot of money, but then again, it is a lot of car.

    Hi Adam,

Thank you for making us aware of this superb survivor. The article seems to say twice in the body that this is a 1963 Corvette while the title and the ebay add talks about an 1966 Corvette.

I would love for this to be a 63 but not a chance :)

    All the best,
    Cristian

Yeah, the typos are unfortunate, but I would still choose a ’66 BB over a ’63, split window and all.

No big deal but it’s a ’66. With 427,PS,PB,PW, and AC it’s worth every penny.

I have one of these power plants from the same year of Corvette (66) that I am going to drop in to my 70 Chevelle this summer.
These vetted are beautiful cars. It’s too bad that GM/Chevrolet felt they had to change the styling to compete with Europe. These are American classics

Imagine this thing barking thru the twisty roads of Tuscany on your way to a rendezvous at the Borgo Scopeto Relais for an evening of aperitivo and dinner. I can dream, right? Probably more exotic than some Italian cars circa ’66. If this Vette could talk…

There a plenty of nice hills and curves in Mono, Ontario where this car lives. Unfortunately, the posted speed limits are only 80 kph (50 mph). This car would be a hazard to my drivers license every time that I fired it up.

Awesome ride. And yes, the interior color combo is unusual, to say the least.

That’s one nice Vette!! A/C and 4 speed makes it worth more to me than most other 66 models.

That is one good looking C2. I know when I was a kid I thought BBC Vettes were some of the coolest cars on the road. I have to admit I was into drag racing in those days and a big block Vette was something every kid wanted. Today I’d rather look at a SBC because IMO the car handles better with less mass over the front end, but that’s a personal thing.
Good looking and if the reserve is met, I how the new owner takes it out and drives it rather than hiding it away.

It’s an easy $90k car. Unfortunately, at that price, it is too much for the average person and the folks that can afford it would stash it away.

Very nice. Stop calling it a 63. Who edits your copy. Loaded car for sure. White interior is uncommon but I have seen it several times. Back in then good ole days you could actually order a car the way you wanted. What makes old Corvettes worth money works two ways. Those with plenty of options and those without. Peter Fonda ordered a new 65 Nassau Blue coupe with 396, heat delete for a credit and no radio. Last I knew it was owned by a friend of mine, doctor in New Jersey.

Probably the nicest Corvette of its type ever to be shown on BarnFinds (IMHO). Very nice. Numbers matching 427/m20 4 speed with air, power everything, and aluminum knockoffs, all in immaculate condition. What else can be said? (did you notice that the 390 HP 427 was a $181.00 option when new?)

Beautiful car, all the right stuff, Big Block, 3 pedals, Side Pipes, Knock-offs. The only thing that puzzles me is why it had an engine rebuild with less than 50K miles on the clock. If a person is going to pay 6 figures for a car, that is a fair question to ask.

    Just sayin’

Thomas, Possible that it might have been improperly stored for its snooze resulting in the motor being stuck. Or maybe it went into storage because of motor problems to begin with, who knows,,,? The Shadow do and he aint saying.

      Just saying

Beautiful example of a SURVIVOR! One can not find another classic like this with everything are original anytime soon. I’m sure the price will be north of 100K once a collector took a gander. If I can afford it I would buy it! “It’s the CAR stupid!”

Beautiful vette. I’m restoring a 1966 Roadster with hardtop which is a barn find of sorts I guess. The seller New the original the and knew it was a big block car but cannot prove it with paperwork so sold it for small-block money. When I got it home I went about proving it, at least to me, that it was a big block car and I also took it to a Bloomingburg gold judge who agreed that it was. Since I cannot prove that it’s a big block car I’m just putting a rebuilt 454 555 horsepower and not looking for a numbers matching engine.

Bidding at $52,800.00. Wow!! But, these cars do fetch this kind of cash and more. Sadly, my pockets are just a bit shy of that. Best of everything to seller and new owner.

Over 53K now, but still under the reserve. No surprise to me, I think it will take at least another 20 or maybe even 30 to get the seller to part with it.

      Great car.
