Big-Block and Factory A/C: 1966 Dodge Coronet 500
The Dodge Coronet was originally introduced in 1949, and spanned 7 generations through 1976 (with a gap from 1960-64). Originally a conservatively styled model, it eventually was included in the muscle car craze, and by the time this 1966 Dodge Coronet 500 came out, it was a pretty potent machine if the right options were ordered! This one has apparently lived in Texas its whole life, has only had 2 owners, and has 83,000 original miles on it. It’s currently for sale here on eBay in Florida, however, and the bids are just under $22,000 with 1 day left. Thanks Larry D for another great Barn Finds tip!
This Coronet has a white hard top over dark blue paint. It’s not a combination I’ve seen before but is very attractive, and this model is unique in that they didn’t really have the over-the-top paint colors and graphics that so often adorned the muscle cars of the late 1960s and early 1970s. It appears the paint, glass, and trim are all in excellent condition. I see a double small dings around the trunk trim and some of the red paint is missing, but that’s about it. The wheels and tires look good as well. I don’t see any rust in the photos, and the seller confirms all the panels are solid as well as the frame and floors. For a Texas car, I have no trouble believing that.
The interior is in fantastic shape as well. The headliner has been replaced, but apparently everything else is original, and it has certainly been cared for. I think the blue interior complements the blue exterior very well. The bucket seats were a factory option that is harder to find, and I really like the courtesy lights along the console, to illuminate the foot wells. You can see the vents sticking out below the dash, which tell us this car is equipped with A/C, a welcome touch if this car stays in Florida (or goes back home to Texas). We are told that all gauges and switches still function correctly.
The engine bay cosmetically doesn’t match the rest of the car… a bit of surface rust and plenty of dust. However, I bet it would clean up easily and it also testifies to the originality of this car – the seller says it’s the original numbers-matching big-block engine and 727 Torque Flite automatic transmission. He doesn’t specifically state which engine it is, although I think it’s most likely the 383. Can any Mopar fans confirm that? We are told it runs and drives well, and the other important systems like brakes and steering are in good working order. It seems that this car needs nothing, and is ready for owner #3!

Looks like the 361 2bbl V8. Double checked the VIN, code F is for that engine. Friend had a ’66 Charger with this engine. By 1967, it wasn’t available for Coronet or Charger.
Good eye Fun
295hp optional “D” code was 320hp.

I would bet it’s a 361 engine since the fender tags read V8. It it was a 383 it would say so on the fenders. I seen it once at a car show 383 four barrel. We know it’s not a 318 so going with a 361-2. Otherwise great looking ride. 🐻🇺🇸
From what i can see is this car would be well bought below 25,000 dollars. It would be a great driver as is. The 😢 part is people think any old car is worth big money these day? Whether it is a collecters car or not. This one is a good example.
I’m totally liking what I’m seeing here. A well-cared-for, low mileage, and unbutchered 60s Dodge For $22k. Maybe not exactly a bargain, but it seems like a reasonable price for what you’re getting here, and if it runs great like the eBay listing says I hope the next owner will drive it gently and continue to preserve it just like it is now.
The “Dodge Rebellion wants you”, Pamela Austin,,,she was Dodges version of Dinah Shore, only with some 60’s zing. Just the nicest cars until they cheapened them up for high HP applications.
Dad bought a ’67 Coronet 440 with a 383 and 4bbl. Burgundy, no vinyl top, white interior. A few aesthetic styling improvements in ’67 and it was an awesome car.
Another victim of tailpipe mania.

Great Ride….. I had a ‘67 Dodge CoronetRT 440cu Bronze/White int.
Ran like a Hemi ( wish I still had it)
I wouldn’t trust this seller as far as I could throw him. Everything about his listings scream, Don’t trust me! TWO listings for the exact same car? No, no, mustn’t do that on eBay. Bidding up to $5650 AND buy it now for $21,900. Too many exclamation points, he doesn’t know the engine size and puts several other models in the listing titles, the latter in itself is in violation of eBay policy.
I like the car and the buy now price seems reasonable. They don’t grow on trees anymore.
