Beautiful in Blue: 1967 Dodge Coronet
The seller of this 1967 Dodge Coronet 440 describes it as a barn find. Located in Marysville, Washington, it is offered for sale here on Craigslist with a clean title. The seller has priced it at $10,500 OBO. Barn Finds reader Michael has managed to unearth another interesting car for us to write about, so thank you so much for that Michael. So, let’s investigate this Dodge and see how it stacks up.
When I am reviewing cars to write about on Barn Finds one of my pet gripes has tended to be the quantity and quality of photos that some sellers provide. The quality of the photos for this particular car aren’t bad, but I’m at a loss to work out why the seller doesn’t roll the car out of the workshop to grab some unobstructed shots of both sides of the car. We have to work with what we’ve got, and on the face of it this Coronet appears to be in fairly reasonable condition. Paint and panels appear to be quite good, although the doors on both sides appear to be slightly out of alignment. These are big, heavy doors so that’s probably not that surprising. I can’t be sure but I think that I can detect a small patch of rust visible on the lower right rear quarter panel just behind the wheel arch. There also appears to be a dent in the rear bumper that may need addressing. Given the shine that is on this Dodge, I’d like to know what sort of barn it was found in. I need to park my car in it.
The interior lets the side down considering how clean the outside appears to be. The dash appears to be in reasonable condition, although I’m trying to ignore the CD player that’s fitted in there. The dash pad looks okay, but there’s some really odd discoloring of the glove compartment door. I initially thought that it was a reflection, but it is present in photos taken from other angles. The front seats require some repair work, but the back seat seems to be in good repair. The door cards have been cut to fit aftermarket speakers, and the same fate has befallen the rear parcel tray. I’ve left the carpet until last because I honestly don’t know what to make of it. The only times that I’ve seen carpets fade and discolor like that have been times when they’ve been wet for an extended period, so that is something that will need careful investigation.
The engine bay is something of a let down once again. Considering how clean the outside of this Dodge is, under the hood is as disappointing to me as the interior is. Because I’m not completely knowledgeable about Dodge engines I did a bit of scouting round and have come to the conclusion that I think that this is the 383ci V8. Please correct me if I’m wrong on that. The thing that disappoints me about the engine bay is that it’s pretty dirty under here, and the number of surplus wires just sets me on edge. Anyone who has ever bought a car where the wiring has been changed or modified knows just how much of a nightmare dealing with electrical issues can be. The engine is backed by the TorqueFlite auto transmission and the car also features power steering. The seller states that the car runs and drives great, so that’s a big plus.
There is no denying that this is a pretty car. The Dodge Coronet 2-door hardtop has fantastic style, and the colors set this one off beautifully. There are interior issues to deal with and potentially a question mark over rust. Especially if the front floor has been wet. A good 440 2-door will currently fetch prices north of $20,000. If this car is rock solid then at $10,500 it could be a very good buy. I really want it to be solid because I do rather like it.

It wont take long to sell this.
The worst of the engine bay is those 10′ battery cables and both in red. Yes the carpet looks like it’s been wet for quite awhile. Otherwise the car looks good.
Both fenders, grill surround and bumper have been tweaked, probably a low speed hit. Door misalignment looks more to ill fitting trim. Still, I wanted one of these in the worst way…had my eyes on an immaculate “old lady” one owner who wouldn’t sell. When she passed away, her heirs hastily disposed of “that old car” without informing me!! :-)
I love the 66 thru 69 Coronet’s. My first car was an 8 year old 1968 Dodge Coronet 500, it cost me all of $500.00. Same color blue as this one w/ a white vinyl top. I drove it until some SOB stole it,used it in a crime and dumped it into the Chain of Rocks Canal near St. Louis, MO.
This possibly make a nice daily drive, fix it up while you enjoy it!
The 66 Dodges were the first cars I ever really watched being delivered to the dealerships. Loved the chiseled look of the B-bodies. Ultimately ended up with one a few years later. Excellent cars. Light, low, easy to work on. Really well engineered. The period 4-speed is about as smooth operating as a dump truck, but that is what they used ! Goes like a striped ape and stops just as well. Corners great. Love it. This one is excpetionally striking in that blue/white.
A friend owns his grandparents’ 67 500 coupe. 383/727, he says it does everything mine does.
