BF Project: 1962 Morris Mini Cooper Update

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

After posting about our current project, this 1962 Morris Cooper, we got a lot of great feedback and requests for video updates. So, I filmed a short video (vlog) of what I’m currently working on. Rather than rehash what’s in the video, I’ve included the video below so that you can just watch it. If you aren’t already subscribed to our YouTube channel, be sure to do that so you get instant alerts when we post new videos about this project.

As you can see, we are making good headway on this Mini, but we are waiting on parts now. Stay tuned though, as we still have a few things we can do on it while we wait!

That looks like an awful lot of carbon on the pistons!

I put oil in the cylinders prior to starting the engine and we only ran it for a second since there wasn’t coolant in it, so it wouldn’t have gotten hot enough to burn all the oil off. We are going to pull the pistons out though to inspect the rings and bearings, it never hurts to be thorough.

I would recommend replacing the front rubber cone springs while everything is apart unless you know they are good… and even then, remove them so you can paint. Installation on a freshly cleaned and painted sub-frame is so much easier than doing it in the car.

7 Enterprises and Mini Mania are two parts suppliers and information folks you need to get to know. I get some engine parts from 7 Enterprises not the least of which is the best valve springs ever made. You do need to replace the old ones in the engine as floating the valves at higher rpm does nothing good for the valve train.

Mini Cooper…..Around 1965, Paul McCartney was zipping around London in his Mini, until finally he’d received enough tickets to have his license suspended. So, in order to go over to Lennon’s house to write songs, Sir Paul would have to call a taxi.

On one such occasion, the cabbie was taking Paul over to John’s house, and Paul was making small talk with the guy. Paul says something to effect of “So, how’s business? Are you working a lot?”. The cabbie replies “Eight days a week!!”.
