The owner has been the custodian of this 1993 Pontiac Firebird Formula for three years, and the vehicle has always been meticulously maintained. He recently completed a comprehensive list of work to ensure it performs perfectly. He includes a range of additional parts that would allow the winning bidder to tailor the car to their taste. It presents well for a survivor of this vintage, and with 60,000 original miles showing on its odometer, it should offer years of classic motoring pleasure. A new home is its only need due to the owner having too many projects and insufficient space. Therefore, he has listed the Firebird with us at Barn Finds Auctions.
This Firebird makes a striking initial impression, with the first owner ordering it in Gray Purple Metallic. It is a distinctive shade that appears to change as the light hits it, guaranteeing that this classic will turn heads at any time of the day or night. The only visible flaw is minor bug rash on the front fascia, which isn’t severe enough to warrant attention. The winning bidder could choose to have it addressed by a paint shop, but there would be no harm in leaving it untouched. Otherwise, the paint shines beautifully, looking almost deep enough to walk into. The panels are straight, and the gaps are tight and consistent. The doors don’t sag, closing effortlessly. This Firebird has always been garage-kept and has never seen rain on the seller’s watch. Therefore, its rust-free status is unsurprising. The plastic and glass are excellent, while the current wheel and combination have only accumulated 5,000 miles since being fitted by the owner. This is one area where the winning bidder could tailor this classic’s appearance. They could retain the existing wheels or bolt on the spotless set of 16″ original alloys for a “factory” look. Alternatively, the owner includes a set of 17″ Corvette rims that are wrapped in Cooper tires with less than 6,000 miles under their belts. Photos are included in the image gallery to allow potential buyers to visualize how the Firebird would look with each combination.
Pontiac launched its Fourth Generation Firebird range for the 1993 model year, and as with its predecessor, the company focused strongly on aerodynamic efficiency. However, it had also clawed back significant horsepower lost during the Malaise Era, and this Formula demonstrates the gains that were made. Its engine bay houses the 5.7-liter LT1 V8, producing 280hp and 330 ft/lbs of torque. This car features the six-speed Borg Warner M28 wide-ratio manual transmission, power steering, and four-wheel disc brakes. Performance is all you might expect from a combination of that caliber, with the ¼-mile journey taking 14.4 seconds. Aero efficiency is demonstrated by this car’s ability to nudge 155mph before running out of breath. The owner has meticulously maintained this classic during the three years in his care, with a long list of recent work. This includes a new water pump, hoses, and belts. The Firebird features a new cat-back Hooker exhaust, a new front seal, a new intake manifold gasket, plugs, and plug wires. The fluids were recently flushed and replaced, and a new battery was fitted in May. The new owner might be able to squeeze a few additional ponies from the V8 because the owner includes a shiny new K&N cold air filter system. Maintenance shouldn’t be an issue if the buyer is hands-on since a two-volume Service Manual is also included. The car has a genuine 60,000 miles on the clock, with 6,000 of those accumulated with the current owner behind the wheel. This Firebird runs and drives perfectly, allowing the winning bidder to fly in and drive it home.
The interior is one of this Firebird’s highlights because its condition is outstanding for its age. The first owner teamed the Gray Purple Metallic paint with Graphite cloth and vinyl in an unquestionably classy combination. It is virtually impossible to fault the appearance because there is no evidence of neglect or abuse. The outer seat edges are a known weak spot but these show no signs of wear or distress. The plastic hasn’t become cracked or brittle, and there is no appreciable wheel wear. The owner recently replaced the air conditioning compressor, so the A/C blows ice-cold. Other creature comforts include power windows, power locks, power exterior mirrors, and a premium Delco AM/FM radio/CD player with a graphic equalizer and a Bluetooth upgrade.
This 1993 Pontiac Firebird Formula is ideal for an enthusiast who cannot undertake a project build. It has no mechanical needs, and with a low odometer reading, it should offer years of classic motoring pleasure. However, there is also scope for personalization using the additional wheel sets and the cold-air system. Pontiac is now a distant memory, and there is no evidence that General Motors plans a revival. Therefore, preserving vehicles like this Firebird becomes more critical with each passing year. You can play your part in that process while having a fun driver.

This is a fairly rare car. The ’93 F-bodies didn’t hit showrooms until Spring, 1993, and shortly after they were introduced, the 6-speed manual was put on hold through the rest of the model year. I bought a ’93 Z-28 with the 6-speed in April, and in October, I sold it with 12,000 miles on it for a couple thousand more than I paid for it. I never found out why the 6-speed was put on hold, though.
Opti-spark Distributor is the weak spot on these (bought a 94 Z28 like this new in December 1993, but 249K miles on it until had to see it in 2019) water pumps went every 70-80K, usually good idea to do the Optispark then, trouble now is finding a good one, wondering if the plugs were really changed, they’re a Bee-otch (didn’t do them myself) Drove mine like an old lady for the most part, got 195K out of the Clutch and 198K before 5th 6th gears went Bye Bye, loved that car
Yes plugs and wires replaced 2 years ago. I have receipts for all work completed and all work and parts guaranteed.
Some well documented trouble spots, I’ve driven one, and they are guaranteed to put a smile on. 😃 Great sound, and the 6sp manual makes em even more fun.
Nice one, especially with the 6 speed manual. I recall when these came out with the slimmed down body – a welcome relief from the overdone cladding on a lot of 80s Pontiacs, and the weird experiments they did with the front end for a few years. Usually, I like the OEM wheels, but this is one where I do not blame the seller for changing out the OEM wheels. Those directional designs are definitely not holding up to the test of time like earlier Rally, SS, and snowflake designs did. Not sure the wheels on the car look the best though. I’d probably opt for the Vette rims as they are similar to some later T/A wheels. I am wanting a manual, but not quite the right time. Too bad, this one is close to me.
I have a 99 5 speed 6cy firebirde…been in storage for 20 years. These cars have not really found a niche in the market place, regarding value or price….really overlooked within the market place.
Not sure why but you are correct..I had a 94 Trans Am and when I sold it I had to give it away!
Those wheels are a definite improvement on this car. And that “Octo-Spark” (as I like to call it), will work fine ..until it doesn’t, somewhere out on the road, then you’ll be walking. Also, I’m glad the stock stereo was left alone, as they worked well and I made a living out of repairing them (and other GM units).
