If you are a fan of fins, this Dodge Custom Royal Regal Lancer is the find for you! The Regal Lancer was Dodge’s top-of-the-line trim level and was only offered as a two-door in one of four special color combinations. Less than 1,200 Regal Lancers were built. Who knows how many of those remain, but it can’t be many. This example has been with the seller for the past 23 years, and they have enjoyed owning it, but the time has come to thin out their collection. They want to see it go to a good home, so they are offering it here as a Barn Finds Auction!
Given how special a find this Dodge is, we sent one of our professional photographers over to get all the needed pictures. While the car isn’t in perfect condition, it won’t take much to make it a fun and interesting driver! The seller notes a few minor issues. The speedometer is inoperative, the starter motor makes an odd noise, the front end could use an alignment, the brake pedal occasionally goes down further than normal, and there’s some bubbling showing around the rear fenders. Otherwise, the car starts, runs, and drives well.
As previously stated, the Custom Regal Lancer was offered in a limited color palette, with bronze appearing in three of the four options. This one is bronze with white accents and looks great. It also featured unique badging, trim, and interior. At some point, the seats and headliner were recovered in black vinyl. The seats are showing some wear, which would be an excellent excuse to recover them in the correct style bronze, white, and black upholstery. The door panels appear original and would give you an idea of the materials used for the original upholstery.
Power is provided by the car’s original 350 Ram Fire cui V8 and is paired to a Torqueflite Automatic transmission. Recent work includes rebuilding the Carter AFB four-barrel carburetor and installing a new water pump. The car is equipped with power steering and power brakes.
This really is an amazing find! These Regal Lancers are hard to come by. The chrome is in good shape, the body looks straight, and with a little work, it will be an amazing driver. Along that same line, if someone crashed into a Denali the vehicle would be Nailed. And if the at-fault driver wouldn’t own up they would be in Denial.
My uncles would say Dotch as well. They also drove Plymitches. Always said “dees, dem and dos” with the long oh sound. I sure miss them guys.
I am the seller. The D-500 badge was added at some point in the car’s lifetime. It is not a D-500. It has the original 350 V8 .
Is that the same 350 that Plymouth used in 58, one year only, in its Fury? I thought it was a Plymouth only engine, but I could certainly be mistaken.
The 58 Plymouth Fury had the 350 V8 as an option and came with dual carbs. The 58 Dodge Regal Lancer came stock with the 350 V8(no dual carbs, the D500 with dual carbs was a 361 V8). The 58 DeSoto Firesweep came with a 350 V8. Hard to know for sure but it seems that it would be the same engine for all the makes

I can’t purchase it-BUT THOSE CARS ARE SO ELITE LOOKING & FANCY. A church guy I knew around 1960 Had a Dodge Royal push button V-8. I don’t know the exact year or engine (313, 350, or HEMI 331 or 354–but he would back it up–then throw it into low or drive & do a HUGE FISHTAIL BURNOUT!!!!../////.My Dad had a 1951 Chrysler Windsor? 6 cyl. with a Semi-automatic–they were so cool to drive. I am now 78 & STILL have a yardfull of Chrysler Products with my son.
Hey Nick, I remember you! The guy with all the finned Mopars all over near USF. In the 90’s I almost bought a 1952 Studebaker Commander, but passed due to the brakes. I asked you how you were able to park that many cars in SF streets. I remember coming in your front door and you had a board near the door with all the keys and where they were parked! Not a one year only motor block – it was a 350 cubic inch the first year and got larger to 361 then 383 then bigger and bigger – the RB as we know it.
Thanks-TYPICAL CHRYSLER CORPORATION INSTEAD OF JUMPING FROM 350 TO 400 TO START WITH—THEN THE FOOLISHNESS OF EVEN WORSE WITH ABOUT 10 HEMI SIZES–RATHER THAN APPROXIMATE CASTINGS OF 50/75 CU.IN INCREMENTS—with the stupidity of splitting Chrysler, Dodge, Plymouth, Imperial, Desoto, –why didn’t Chrysler take over the bunch of them –then have a few standard engine sizes like they later did? (I know this is partly wrong–maybe you can explain who & when each division started & when they were joined to Chrysler—sure is a complicated subject, I know.) I haven’t got time to research my mistakes– THANKS
These were B motors. The RB grew from a second, different 383 that was used for Desoto and Chrysler in 1959. This became the 413, 426 and 440 RB series with the block having a raised deck height. Two different big block families.
Why did Chrysler create the second 383? My understanding is the Mound Road engine plant could not meet demand for big blocks and a second engine plant was opened. Why different? You thought you were confused before? You have no idea. You should thank Chrysler for leaving us this very rich automotive legacy.
Not just a Lancer, mind you, a ROYAL REGAL Lancer. Doesn’t get much more royal or regal, I suppose. To show how much me and my brother disliked the LW Show, that my parents and grandparents were glued to, we’d split to the basement to go through grandpas,,,um, treasures. I forgot that he pitched Dodges. And” a tank-a-ya, boyz, wunnerful, just wunnerful.
To show the power of music, my parents and grandparents were willing to overlook “Uncle Larrys” German accent, because they loved the music. Myron Floren played a wicked squeezebox, and the Lennon Sisters with their upbeat songs, oh yeah, they were like the Beatles to us.
Well Howard, The LW show was mandatory viewing at our house on Saturday night, followed by Gunsmoke. Back in those days there were only 3 networks and WGN in Chicago. Some friends called Lawrence OLD BUBBLE HEAD, especially when he Popped His Cork(as TV Guide put it) firing Alice Lon ,the Champagne Lady for showing too much cleavage in her gowns. Myron was called the Happy Norwegian, while Dick Kessler 🤔 was referred to as the Sour Kraut. My, how times have changed! Seems like Larry Hoopers PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACE is even more appropriate these days. 😲. OH! I almost forgot that for a brief time, Wednesday night was required viewing of LW TOP TUNES and NEW TALENT, sponsored by Plymouth! You do have to admit that Lawrence put on a good show with production number sets. Thanka you, for these kinda words! As Archie and Edith later sang, Those WERE the days.
You forgot WTTW channel 11…..it started in Chicago in 1955, same year the Lennon Sisters first appeared on LW. Anyone know what this Dodge should sell for?

With all due respect, you CAN go much further. As a teenager fascinated by OTT excess in cars and names and being a budding artist, I drew an over the top rendering combining elements from several au currant vehicles and naming it The Grand Royal Regal Imperial Emppres Brougham deElegance Landau Deville. 🤔 Good Lord, how did I remember that 😳?

I was 8 then.. my dad had a friend who drove a 2 tone 58 Dodge 2 door… white and goldish. One day we visited his house and I could not stop staring at the promotional model of it on a shelf. He gave it to me… and I stil have it.. in a display case with other promos that survived but with some scratches from pushing them around on the floor…..
My first real car was a ’57 Royal Lancer – and in my Southern CT area, those hubcaps – “Lancers” – were the rage! I was the only one in the gang that had them on the proper car.
Omg. I grew up to LW in San Francisco. Love this car. Like to add to my BUCKETLIST collection here in Bonney Lake Wa. Starting bid of 5k . Had a 58 coronet when I was much younger.
Well, it’s a good 20′, but that’s about it. I hate to rag on this car, but I was quite interested in it till I looked at all the closeup pictures of it. Those pics don’t do this car any favors. Lots of rust bubbles on the fenders, lots and lots of stainless and chrome with serious pitting, inside the car and out. Interior side door panels needing full replacement, missing lower kick panels, and that carpet? Geez. Very disappointed to view the dash chrome and plated in such poor condition, suffering from bad pitting. Seat material all wrong and needing full replacement. And that gas filter under the hood doesn’t bode well for this motor. I do understand that that this is a very rare car, deserving of restoration. Perhaps a keeper for a fun weekend ride. But just needing to much $$$ for me.
But when just one chrome jet hood ornament isn’t enough, then here you have it.
Nevertheless, I wish the seller good success with the auction, it will be interesting to follow.

My parents were more Mitch miller fans but me and my brother never watched with them on our 1 black and white tv. Lol not until around 68 did we get a color tv
Our neighbor had a Desoto in the same colors that looked VERY similar but the interior had swivel seats and I think one was higher than the other. No clue what whine was in it
RMAC..for 57 DeSoto introduced a new entry level, The Firesweep. It had a shorter front end and for some reason the grille and headlight treatment was pure 57 Dodge. Also my family sang along with Mitch on our 17 inch BW RCA Victor, purchased in 1951.
Regal Lancers like this are less common than the Royal Lancers were, and BFs has been featuring many Mopar beauties like this and a few late 50s early 60s Desotos as well. I’ve really become a Mopar fan here lately.

I thought I once saw him on the Welk show but I can’t find any evidence. It seems natural enough to associate two corny but very popular entertainers of the same era.
When I use to peruse SF craigslist, there was always a gentleman selling cars like this. Always Mopars as I recall. I have always wondered where in SF you would have room? I had to move out of the area to house mine……

question for the seller?? Would the car be up to a long distance trip home on its own? Tires?, radiator?, trans? generator?
It depends on how long of a trip. I wouldn’t try a trip more than eight hours in any old car. Radiator, tires and trans are fine, as is the generator. It runs great around town, but why take a chance driving long distance. Towing would be a lot safer.
Unless you live 30 minutes away, I would say use a trailer on any older classic you buy. People always fall in this trap. You never know what may go wrong. Bad tires, brakes, carb and everything else in between.
if i bought the the car how soon would i have to pick it up
One to two weeks would seem like a reasonable time to pick up the car.

A can’t say I remember you since it was so long ago, but I do remember that board I had. I’m down to only a few cars now on the street, so the board is not necessary. I found storage for most of the others. I do remember that 52 Studebaker though, Take care, Nick
