UPDATE – Additional photos have been added to the gallery.

This 1979 Camaro Z/28 resided with the same family until the current owner purchased it. While it’s received some touchups over the years, it looks to be in nice condition. The seller has enjoyed it, but they’ve decided it’s time to find a new home for it where it will be enjoyed and preserved. The seller is offering it here as a Barn Finds Auction, and the car is located in Hales Corners, Wisconsin.

When the original owner of this Camaro passed away over 20 years ago, they left it to their brother-in-law, who took good care of it. They added a few bolt-on upgrades to give the engine a little more power, but the original parts were retained so that it could be put back to original. Its white paint with gold and brown stripes isn’t the most exciting combination, but it looks good, and white paint tends to hold up well. The seller notes that the paint has been touched up in a few spots but presents nicely. A few small blemishes are showing on the front bumper. When new, it was treated to Ziebart rustproofing. The car is said to be rust-free and that the doors don’t sag.

The interior looks to be in nice condition throughout. The seat upholstery appears to be the optional Custom Knit Cloth. There aren’t any signs of excessive wear, which would help back up the mileage shown on the odometer. The dash and other plastic components also look in great condition. An oil gauge has been added to the bottom of the dash and shows a healthy amount of pressure at idle. There doesn’t appear to be any needs here other than to put the floor mats back down, which are currently in the trunk of the car with the t-top bags.

As you can see, the engine has received a few upgrades. The intake manifold, carburetor, and exhaust manifolds have been replaced with higher-performance components. The parts that were removed, including the emission control devices, were retained and are with the car, the only exception being the air cleaner. The original owner’s brother-in-law told the seller that the engine is good for about 300 horsepower, so some internal work may have been done as well, but there aren’t any receipts. The engine is said to run well, and the car drives great.

This looks like a very nice find that has been cared for and enjoyed throughout its life. It presents nicely but isn’t so perfect that you would be afraid to drive it. The performance upgrades paired with the 4-speed manual will make for a thrilling experience. The owners manual and new car delivery documents come with the car. So, if you’d love to have this Z/28, be sure to cast your high bid below, and if you have any questions for the seller, leave them in the comments!

Nice car. More info on the engine upgrades would be great, but hey it looks great.

I got a chuckle out of the crappy vintage head unit. “Royal Sound” lol. Very period-appropriate.

Hey, if the brother-in-law said 300 horsepower, he must know.

Even if its 225-250hp this’ll be a very fun driver. Love the colors. Nice inside too.

    Converted Berlinetta – not a Z-28.

Are you calling it a converted Berlinetta because of the interior? That was an optional extra called the custom interior 62N that got you the nicer buckets, door panels, upholstery and extra sound insulation for $307 in 1979.

The L in the VIN verifies an engine only available in a Z28.

This Z/28 was built in Los Angeles not Norwood so it has an “8” on line 13 instead of Z28. The engine has Edelbrock manifold & carburetor with Hedman hedders. I will post pictures when I get home. Seller

Clarifying it is a real Z28, and not a tribute, clone, etc?

That’s not a white color, it’s more of a camel tan. I have the same color on my car.

This is a nice one, and a 4 speed! I just watched an ’81 with the 305 and manual and much more miles go for over 25K on Hemmings.

If Greg B is bidding, then you know it’s a good one.

This would be something that would be a fun car to drive and not worry about a rock chip or a ding. Four speed cars are getting harder to find. But this one looks like it was well cared for. The undercarriage is clean and that’s a good indicator of what kind of life the car has had up to this point.

I had one just like this one was, except it was metallic brown with the same color stripes (I think, it’s been a long time.) A close ratio 4 speed, with a 373 rear end from the factory, made this a fun, if not fast, car to drive.

Thanks guys. I was also watching the 1981 Camaro Z/28 on Hemmings that ended yesterday with an accepted offer. I go by Idaho Greg on Hemmings. Too bad that one had the 305, but that was typical of 1981 unless a Canadian Z/28 which had the 5.7 liter 350 allowed.

I currently have two 1979 Camaro Z/28’s I am finishing up. Both black exterior Z/28’s. One that I got from the original owner with only 18,800 actual miles. He had custom ordered just about every option available and is a 4 speed manual transmission. The other I am putting an LS3 with a manual 6 speed from a 2010 Camaro in it that should be a ton of fun. I’m hoping to have it on the road this coming year.

I’m always looking for a future project and this one did catch my eye. I took a screenshot of the VIN on the warranty brochure and then blew it up to get a better read on it.

Hoping the Seller can perhaps upload a good quality video to YouTube and add a link here in the comments. The more information and quality pictures and a video would be helpful.

Correct, and appears to not have power windows, or power door locks. I personally like the tilt steering option which I did not see that this one has.

It will have heat controls on the drives side below the dash. Just not a picture of that yet that I saw. No AC though and when you see the vents in the middle that are closed and fixed that is correct for a non AC Camaro of this generation.

It’s a real Z/28 with a 350ci. engine. If you read all the comments and decode the vin plate you will see this. Thanks for all the help with the very nice comments. ( seller )

It’s a Z /28 and the engine sounds healthy in the video IMO. Assuming that the odometer has turned over? The body and paint look good for what it is. No appearance of rust that I can see. Just curious if the seller has performed a compression test on all 8 cylinders and if so if he can share those numbers. First thing I do is check that with every car I get. Good to know IMO.

If you look closely at the seats and the rest of the interior you will see that the mileage is correct. I even have the original tires on period after market wheels. ( they are visible in the picture with the exhaust ). The tires that are currently on the car are only its second set !
