BF Auction: 1974 Triumph TR6
- Seller: Jon K
- Location: Staatsburg, New York
- Mileage: 57550 Shown
- Chassis #: CF17308U
- Title Status: Clean
The seller of this Triumph TR6 has owned it for over 30 years! It’s a little rough around the edges, but it runs well and is ready to be restored or just driven. Be sure to look through all the photos in the gallery before bidding. Also, feel free to leave any questions in the comments section below.
The fuel system has been cleaned up with a new tank, lines, and rebuilt Strombergs. The water pump, starter, master cylinder, and clutch slave cylinder have also been replaced. The seller claims that the steering and suspension are solid. The top, tonneau, and boot cover are claimed to be in good shape too.
The interior could use an upholstery kit and some new wood on the dash. Luckily, parts are readily available and relatively affordable. These cars are fun to drive with their big six, fully independent suspension, and drop top. They also have a masculine look to them. Add brown paint to the mix and you have a very manly machine.
There is some visible rust on the fenders so the next owner will have to decide if they want to dig in or just Waxoyl the whole thing and drive it. Personally, I would go with the latter. I would only replace the parts absolutely necessary to keep this an affordable beater. It may not win any car shows, but you’ll have just as much fun!

These cars are good looking with enough power to satisfy most folks. Had some experience with them in the ’80s and ’90s working on upgraded suspensions and body work. One thing I’d do is repaint to another color as brown just doesn’t fit what the car is, a sports car.
Really? I think brown suits the TR6 perfectly! I’d much rather have this color than red or yellow. To each their own though.
I’m a fan of the blue that was available.
BRG or the yellow for me!
Nice fun project not needed to sort! A good runner! I’d redo the interior the way I want ( not original), Paint it with some patina ( meaning not perfect) and have a nice driver! My kind of TR-6!!
This will make someone a decent driver. I tried out a TR6 but found the footwell tighter than that of the MGB. That made me turn it down. This one has enough upside to please the weekend cruising guy. GLWTA
How did the BarnFinds TR6 get roughed up so quickly? I don’t mean to downplay this one at all, just, this is far more typical of what you’ll find, the BFs one was an exceptional example, and I figure “started” with something like this. Again, no OD, and you may wonder why I make such a stink about that. Here’s a little trick to prove my point. Most vehicles today are 5 speeds, so, run through the gears, bring ‘er up to 70, uhp, uhp, don’t shift to 5th, just cruise along in 4th for a while. See? It just makes a world of difference. The saving grace here is, for most, a long trip in these isn’t going to happen, and for “around town”, or Lake Dr., a 4 speed is probably adequate.
I agree with Jessie that brown or for me British racing green is the best on a TR6
I had a buddy that bought a brown one new with OD back in 73 loved these since then
I am watching this one and will be in Mew York state for the next two weeks so may try to sneak a peak at it to see how bad the rust is underneath
I’ve never seen a black Tr6 did they ever have one,Mine was BRG, I loved that thing so much fun to drive
I had a 71 BRG with wires, then later a 75 brown with the same solid wheels as this one. Both good but preferred the solid wheels and the brown color, for whatever reason I found brown to be the perfect shade for this particular model. Used the 75 for a while for a 65 mile daily turnpike commute and it was fine as a 4 speed.
Those windshield to cowl pics are just plain scary. The word “beater” doesn’t really apply here. I suggest the word “beaten” is more appropriate.
Cowl pics scared me off too
Are we sure it’s a 74? I have a 74 and it has the twin big black rubber 5mph bumpers/dagmars. Also the front turn signals are above the bumper, mine are below. Required to comply with the higher bumper height as part of the regulations.
I read the change was made midway through 1974. It’s why the rubber bumper ones are sometimes called ’74 1/2.
I love the car. Brown is OK. It would make a excellent around town daily driver and also local highway cruiser with The top down. Could be a chick magnet. I’m sure has plenty of power after all it is not a muscle car.
