BF AUCTION: 1975 Mercedes-Benz 230

Bid to: $700View Result

UPDATE – John took some time to clean and film a short video of this Mercedes, so be sure to take a look below.

Of the 7 cars we are helping Reader John O find new homes for, this could be the easiest one to get back on the road! John claims it was still being driven not that long ago and that it needs minimal work to make it a driver again. It really does look to be in nice shape overall, but there is some work to be done to make it a really nice driver. These W115s have been gaining in interest, but it’s easy to see why! They are simple, well built and have a classic look. If you’d love to get this one back on the road, you can find it in Fort Wayne, Indiana and you can bid on it below!

From John – Of all the cars in this collection, I have seen this one running in relatively recent history. In capable hands, this one could easily be back on the road with a little work. I have the keys to it and a title.

The 2.3 liter 4 cylinder is fairly simple to work on, although the fuel injection can be a bit tricky if you’ve never worked on one of these. If it was running recently, it shouldn’t be an issue getting it running again though. Honestly, it looks like the interior is the area that’s going to need the most work. The inside is going to need a deep cleaning before you hit the streets in it. Given how many of these are still on the road around the globe, it shouldn’t be difficult to get parts to make it perfect again.

The paint and body look to be in great shape, so even if it needs mechanical work, this one is great place to start. It’s showing 56k miles on the odometer and I’m inclined to believe that’s correct. Between how great the paint looks and the fact that the seats aren’t destroyed, it looks like it could really be a 56k mile car. If you’ve been thinking about getting into classic Mercedes ownership, this one is worth considering! If you have any questions about it, leave them in the comments and John will get back to you.

That has to be the widest front bumper I’ve ever seen

I have a 450SEL in the same color.
    V8 and 3spd auto with 51k miles.
    $28k when new…. ridiculous!
    Needs a new home.

I was in the used car business in the late 80’s. Every Mercedes we ever had (usually pre-1980 sedans) had a broken odometer and had to be sold TMU (True Mileage Unknown). That said, these cars drive GREAT when they are properly maintained…..

Yes! the nylon drive-gear in the VDO speedo’s is notorious for breaking (miles counter stops but continues to read the speed – so most folks did not fix them)

This year 230 does NOT have fuel injection. It has a Stromberg 175 side draft carburetor! Pretty straight forward to work on.

That is some serious mold growing in the interior of this car. I would check the underside for rust very carefully.

Has the underside been inspected for rust? Especially as the car’s from Ohio (as I am)

I know it has been 11 months, but what is the status of this auction? Has the vehicle sold? Thanks in advance.
