We see some wonderful classics at Barn Finds, but a few stand apart from the rest. These are the types of cars that require you to scrutinize every photo to fully appreciate the depth of the “wow” factor they possess. Such is the case with this 1967 Chevrolet Chevy II Nova. From its immaculate exterior to its spotless interior, there is nothing warranting criticism. However, this Nova’s mechanical specifications don’t ask for respect…they demand it! This stunning vehicle is set to head to a new home, with the owner listing it exclusively with us at Barn Finds Auctions.
Chevrolet introduced its Second Generation Chevy II for the 1966 model year, but it only graced showroom floors until the end of 1967. Our feature car is a second-year example that presents superbly in Sapphire Blue. It possesses a depth of color and shine you could almost walk into, reflecting its surroundings like a mirror. The owner admits there are minor touch-ups, but aligning the driver’s door would leave it presenting flawlessly. The panels are laser-straight, with the underside shots confirming that this classic is rust-free. The glass is crystal clear, and the trim shines as brightly as the paint. This Nova looks relatively unassuming and sedate, but the Weld wheels and integrated hood scoop warn that there is more to this classic than meets the eye.
Chevrolet offered 1967 Nova buyers a wide choice of engines to power their new purchase, with a 350hp version of the 327ci V8 available to buyers. However, this classic takes power far higher, courtesy of its professionally built 406ci V8. This motor makes the 327 look like an automotive wimp, placing 475hp at the driver’s disposal. The builder tackled this project as a complete package, with the power feeding to a Ford 9″ rear end via a Turbo 400 automatic transmission with a stall converter and a line lock. It shouldn’t lack in the handling department, featuring rack-and-pinion steering and subframe supports. Safety was a prime consideration, with stopping power provided by four-wheel disc brakes. The previous owner pulled out all the stops on this build, with the seller including over $36,000 worth of invoices that brought this Nova to its current form. It has only clocked around 4,100 miles since the project’s completion, meaning the drivetrain is barely broken in. The engine bay looks amazing, with many surfaces featuring stunning cosmetic enhancements. However, this Nova is about far more than good looks. Performance is all you might expect. There is plenty of power and the ability to humble the opposition at any “Traffic Light Grand Prix.” Potential buyers should consider it a turnkey proposition that runs and drives perfectly.
The Nova’s interior continues the custom theme, with its specifications driven by equal amounts of comfort and practicality. Front seat occupants sink into body-hugging buckets, and a Crow lever-lock lap belt holds the driver securely in place. The B&M shifter ensures precise ratio selection while the driver monitors the car’s health via a custom AutoMeter gauge cluster viewed through a leather-wrapped tilt wheel. The console adds to the visual appeal, while a modern CD player provides entertainment on the move if occupants tire of the tune being sung by that magnificent V8. As with every other aspect of this classic, the interior seems faultless. The upholstered surfaces and carpet are free from wear and distress, while the dash and pad are spotless. The headliner is as tight as a drum, and the bright trim is immaculate.
I wouldn’t describe this 1967 Chevy II Nova as a sleeper because the larger wheels and hood scoop provide clues that something special could lurk below the surface. However, they don’t provide a true indication of this car’s performance potential. It should show any traditional muscle car from the era a clean set of heels, but it retains the elegant good looks of a car that may have initially seen service as a family’s daily driver. Lifting the hood at a Cars & Coffee would set tongues wagging, and would be almost as satisfying as the feeling provided when the driver hits the gas. If you wish to experience those sensations, submitting a bid would be an excellent starting point.

Full disclosure, I’m only a spectator so feel free to ignore my questions, but what’s the avg 1/4 mi time, and do you have a video of it running/idling?
The SS package wasn’t required to order the L79 327 – 350 hp.
350 hp/4 speed in bottom feeder Nova cost about $2500 new. This one ought to be worth 20 times that!
Gord i agree, although the manufacturer would list as only in Super Sport, the dealer had the ability to alter as a special order. It was a great time to come of age, best of music(Wolfman Jack on WKBW) for cruising, best of cars,

Great car. One correction though. The L79 350 hp 327 or L79 was not available in 67. 66 only. Apparently maybe 4 or so sneaked out in 67 but that was it. Top 67 HP was 275. This was done so it wouldn’t compete with the Camaro. These were nicer ars in my opinion.
The L-79 was also available in 68 Chevy ll’s. Less than 1300 or so were built. I owned one in the late 70’s that I paid $1800 for. No one knew what they would be worth one day. That car was a Chevelle killer & boy, do I wish I still had it.
I’m in the process of building a 74 SS Big block. Hope do some of that “GTO surprising” if I can live long enough for the body shop to complete the paint job!
Not a Nova. Just a 2. I had one that came from factory with 327, 4spd, 373 posi. Loved to catch a kid in mommas GTO at the light!!

The early literature did include a 325 HP version of the L79 but was immediately cancelled. It is believed only 6 made it off the line. You can read about one of them in the below link. It is actually a Barn Finds article about one of the 6 that sneaked out.

It would take a modern version of the hemi to catch this modern version of a Chevy 2 in a drag race! (but a Hellcat likely is double the weight of this car).

I came across my Muscle Car trading cards and found the 66′ Nova SS on the back the following.
327/ 350 hp,3 speed Manuel standard, optional 4/speed or 2- speed auto.3,547 built.0-60…6.9 seconds. 1/4 mile 15:10 @ 93 mph.It states the L79 came directly from the Corvette. I have the complete set.
1966 & 1967 Novas are my favorite cars but I can’t stand the roof line on the post cars. This is a very nice car though
Back in the late 80s when i was still living in California a neighbor had a white 67′ like this one,was running 11.50s in the 1/4 mile and could drive it on the street as well.Im sure this one is capable of at least low 12s or high 11s with the way it’s set up…takes a good skin coat of filler and great body work to get body panels that smooth and straight….
