BF Auction: 2004 Ford F-150 FX4 Extended Cab
- Seller: Kevin m
- Location: Holtsville, New York
- Mileage: 19,240 Shown
- Chassis #: 1FTPX14544NC16173
- Title Status: Clean
- Engine: 5.4 liter V-8 EFI 24V FFV
- Transmission: Automatic
This 2004 Ford F-150 has covered just 19k miles since new and has spent most of its life tucked away in the garage. The seller is its second owner and has used it for the occasional run to the hardware store, but they are moving and can’t bring it with them, so they have decided to offer it here as a Barn Finds Auction! Given what brand-new trucks go for, this one seems like an amazing buy, especially considering its incredibly low mileage.
The seller purchased the truck in 2014 as their second vehicle. As stated, it was used for runs to the hardware store and hasn’t seen much use beyond that. The body is straight and rust-free. Beyond a few scratches, the paint is in great shape. The bed is equipped with a fiberglass cover that is painted to match. It’s well optioned with the FX-4 package, leather interior, power sunroof/moon roof, power windows, power mirrors, power rear window, and tow package with tow brake controller. Everything is in working condition, and there aren’t any leaks or mechanical concerns.
The interior presents as a low-mileage vehicle should. It’s an extended cab model with rear hinge doors. While not as convenient as a crew cab, the pillarless design makes climbing into the back seats easy. You’ll find a center console between the front seats with a storage bin, cup holders, and the shifter. The seller states that everything works as it should, including the A/C.
Powering this F-150 is the 5.4 liter Triton 24V V8, which came standard with the FX4 package. This engine was rated at 300 horsepower and 365 foot pounds of torque. Power is routed through a 4-speed automatic with selectable 4-wheel drive. The rear axle is equipped with a limited slip differential for optimal traction, whether in 2-wheel or 4-wheel drive.
This is one clean truck, but it should be with so few miles. These trucks have earned a reputation for being durable, so this one has a lot of miles ahead of it. While not as loaded down with technology as a brand-new truck, it’s well-equipped with all the comforts that you could ever want in a truck! So, if you’d love to have this low mileage survivor, be sure to cast your high bids below. And leave any questions you have in the comment section.

Exceptionally nice truck!
“ This engine was rated at 300 horsepower and 365 horsepower”-was that 365 ft#s torque?
GLWTA
Thanks for catching that!
Not a bad deal I look around here in the rust belt mi. and they are asking ungodly money for trucks with 200.000 on the clock just tired trucks and they price them like hemi cudas 20,000 Grand for a truck with 200,000 on the clock but it’s got leather seats and floor shift and power moonroof that’s going to look good broke down in the yard
Ordered myself one of these in August of 03 . Got it in October . Worst truck i’ve ever owned . Back to the dealer for 22 different issues ( that meant 30 + trips to the dealer for warranty work ) in less than 30k . Dealer support was piss poor , I finally contacted Ford and after 11 phone calls they gave me a new truck , didn’t keep it long .
1I’m surprised, I bought a new/leftover ’02 F-150 Super Crew with the 5.4 L V-8, put 262,000 miles on it, a new Oxford White paint job 3 years ago and new seat covers ( I smoked a pipe and had a few burn holes from “popping” seeds and stems)! Never had any engine problems other than replacing spark plugs and the occasional coil pack. Was offered $8,500 for it 2 years ago, but just couldn’t let it go. Oh, I still have it and my “baby” runs like a champ, probably gonna outlive me and I’m 82!
Beautiful F150. Clean, low miles and loaded. Well worth what ever you pay, considering a V6 version of this truck is pushing $50k. Without leather, moonroof, torque, etc.
The 5.4 was kind of hit or miss…mostly miss..as far as reliability with the whole cam phaser debacle. I think 2004 was the first (and worst) year. Nice truck, though. It may wind up knocking and sounding like a diesel at idle or you may get lucky.
Had an 04 but in Lariat trip. Good truck, no real issues. The 5.4 is know for an oiling issue but you can if you do it early replace the oil pump with a higher pressure one. Solves issue as long as you’re on top of oil changes. Love these interiors.
I have some experience with cam phasers and long story short after replacing them didn’t work for long I unplugged the new ones and left them in the motor. I plugged the old ones back in and found a cosy spot to lay them on the intake. The truck ran great with no service light and 290k so far.
You should probably wait for a regular Ford truck posting to share your sob story; crapping yourself in this guys auction is unfair to the seller and adds nothing to the conversation. Pull your head out….you know the rest.
Feel better now, gregmmm?
That is in really nice shape. I believe the 4.6 V8 was a better engine than the 5.4. the 5.4 will have manifold issues at some point. Sure is a nice truck though.
I thought they were “modular” engines so assumed they’d have a similar intake manifold design? Don’t know as I haven’t personally owned any Fords for very long. My Dad’s 5.4 2 valve did have to have the intake manifold replaced recently- I think it was cracked at a water jacket or the crossover tube thingy.
I wouldn’t worry too much about hurting the guys feelings. He’s had the truck for a year… he’s flipping it. I’d avoid an early three valve like the plague. Maybe he could alleviate the phaser concern by adding a startup video.
Where is the carfax?
The best thing about this website is the good and bad comments about vehicles. If I were in the market for a truck like this, the comments are enlightening.
Keep up the good work on good and bad comments.
Have a great day.
I presently own a 2009 F150 4×4 crew cab . It has the 5.4 triton engine. No leather, no moon roof but almost every option you could get. I bought my truck in 2015 with 71,000 miles on it, I paid $12,000.00 for it.
My truck now has just shy of 300,000 miles on it. I have towed all sorts of trailers from 22’ tandem flatbed hauling miniature Indy racing cars to enclosure trailers hauling all sorts of miniature cars and lawnmowers. I now use it to pull my Manx style dune buggy to parades.
When I am not dragging stuff around I am using it on our farm. It’s rusting. Paint still shines, interior need help( shows the hard work required of the truck) but it has been the most dependable truck I have owned! I will make it to 500,000 miles before it is fully retired! These are great trucks!
The LESS tech the BETTER (except maybe a “Fred Flintstone” Truck)! I like my 2004 F150 with the 5 speed Manual. It’s up to you, but I like it SIMPLE.
So Do I. Love my 03 and will drive it to the end.
I had one with 360k miles when I sold it. Other than coughing a few sparkplug and replaced the intake manifold at 270k was a great truck
Nice! . . .
Following.
Whether you like the truck or not,
We still need to vote next Tuesday the 5th.
And may the best MAN win 👊
Oops can I say that?
You have my vote Gus.
Funny, Gus. Actually, you can’t say that. Having said it though, I think we should amend your comment to, “And may the person most respectful of the rule of law win.”
1st year for the “stuck plugs” At this mileage these are probably original. Guarantee no more than 8 will break. Probably the worse modern domestic engine produced. Cam phasers, oil pressure issues.
I had one of these at work until the frame rusted out a couple years ago. The company owner had it for 75,000 miles and then gave it to me to drive. It always had 3000 mile oil changes, never abused. The 5.4 had a “tick” in it that several Ford people told me wasn’t a problem.
At 128,000 I was going 55 MPH in high gear and it stuck several rods and pistons in the oil pan. The only good thing I can say about Ford trucks is the two I had at work always broke down in a convenient location on a sunny day.
I got a “hand me down” 2008 Fusion after the pickup became dangerous to drive, so far in two years it hasn’t let me down. I need to retire, but giving up a free company vehicle is hard. I have a low mile 1999 Toyota Corolla that’s never been in winter, I may have to eventually drive it in snow or move south one of these days.
Hi everyone, this is my truck. I’m sorry so many people seem to have had a problem with the 5.4 engine. Mine has never make a ticking sound or any of the other problems that I’ve read about. It always starts right up and runs like a new truck, because with less than 20,000 miles, it is practically a new truck. I haven’t used it much in the 10 years I’ve owned it, but I try to take it on a good run every couple of weeks. I’ve always been impressed with the power it has. I change the oil every 3000 miles and I only use synthetic oil, I hope that’s made a difference. I’d like to thank everyone for their comments!
Kevin, you are a gentleman.
Lots of issues with these 5.4 motors.
Nice truck though.
Was at an auction this spring had a 2005 f250 super duty with no options except a/c with 3300 miles on went for19000 dollars.
The reserve is off!
Great truck! I think the new truck replacement is $60-75k. FX4 was the top 4×4 before the Raptor models came out.
I have a ‘07 I bought new and now have 150k miles with no issues. Some tick or valve noise is common. I do synthetic oil changes every 3-5k without fail.
