Bargain Maserati: 1990 Chrysler TC
Bidding is ending shortly for this Chrysler TC by Maserati, and despite the less-than-stellar reputation these cars enjoy, this one is cheap enough to warrant overlooking its shortcomings. In fact, this example looks to be pretty nicely maintained, with clean, primrose yellow paint, original wheels and hardtop, and a decent interior. Find it here on eBay where bidding is just over $2K with no reserve.
The hardtop is a nice-to-have feature, and as someone who just added a hardtop to his convertible project, it makes the structure feel infinitely tighter. The chrome trim still shines nicely and the bodylines are impressively straight down the sides. The power antenna appears to be stuck, but that’s an easy fix. The seller notes some clearcoat failure that’s hard to see.
Like any Maserati, the interior is overdone in leather and wood trim. When new, it looks incredible; a few years and owners later, it can start to look tired. The driver’s seat is not in great shape and really should be re-done to match the rest of the cabin, which is holding together nicely. The carpets look better than I’d expect for a tan interior with 90,000 miles.
The passenger seat is faring much better, and the carpets look cleaner, too – suggesting this TC saw mostly one-passenger usage. The seller notes the fuel pump, fuel filter, spark plugs and wires, alternator, battery and belt have been replaced, and they are replacing the valve covers to address the only leak it has. Looks and smells like a bargain to me.

It went for 2550.00, got to be worth that.
I live in Southwest Florida. These and Buick Riatas show every other month or so. This is the typical condition and the typical price. I doubt they will ever be worth more, but probably not less. If you want one, go for it.
Those chrome caps in the door jambs look “unique.” But not in a “unique” good way.
Have a friend that has two of these he’s been trying to sell for a couple years at 5K each. His are in better condition overall. But no one wants these for some reason.
The first year with the Maserati engine are problems, the second year with the Chrysler V6 look the same but are less “exotic” but much more reliable and easy to fix.
Better than Allante Cadillac
Oh heavens no.
I like the styling on these, and this colour suits it very well, but no matter how nice the interior is they always appear rough …I think the heavy bolstering and pleats give off a tattered vibe, regardless of condition.
Now, now. My Allante. ’93. IS not at all a bad car, fast. Comfortable, most systems still work at 25 years and 130,000 plus miles, i drive it every week when the roads are clear and dry.
I had an Allante too and it was a great car. The only problems with them were the dash panel which would burn out. $200 would fix that quick. I’d buy another if I found the right one at the right price.
Great car at a good price And you get to say you own a Maserati!!
