Battlecar Galactica: 1975 Cadillac Fleetwood wagon
Take a 232 inch Cadillac Fleetwood from 1975, graft on the rear of from one of the GM clamshell wagons, add 4 inches and you get this 9-seat land yacht! This incredibly rare and incredibly large wagon is available here on eBay in Hot Springs National Park, Arkansas with just hours left in the auction!
What with the incredibly small descriptions of cars lately on eBay? This car has one run-on sentence as the description, “1975 CADILLAC WAGON NEW TRANS I HAVE ALL THE PARTS ASK QUESTIONS”. This car sure is missing a lot of parts so it is encouraging that the owner has all the parts! This car would have had the Cadillac 500 ci V8 for effortless, luxury cruising for you and 8 of your friends! But I know what you’re thinking: “my wife would never let me bring this car home” until you show her that with all of the rear glass and a sunroof this would be a great greenhouse for getting her plants started this spring!
These remarkable cars were never made by Cadillac. The wagons were all commissioned to coachbuilders such as Wisco and R.S. Harper. The clamshell wagon design used by Chevy, Buick, Oldsmobile and Pontiac allowed the tailgate to drop into the floor and the glass to retract into the roof. Some caddy hardtops were made into wagons and they’re way better looking.
This is as grafted together as any other Caddy wagon. There were no factory wagons in this era, only ambulances, hearses, flower cars, and wagons, all, like this one, coach built by independent firms and all with peculiarities unique to their builders.
I imagine you’re thinking of the Castilian Wagon from Traditional Coach Works LTD…
I always thought that GM made a mistake by not offering a Cadillac wagon. They could have called the cheap one the Calais Cargo, the mid level one the Wagon Deville, and the expensive one the Fleetwood Brougham Estate.
As for vintage Cadillacs I always loved the downsized 77 to 79 full size caddies! 2 years ago I bought All original 78 Coupe DeVille bronze exterior cplor with brown leather interior 16K original miles with all documentation and manuals. loaded has wire wheels. I like the car almost as much as I like the paint job.
Owner invited me to “ask questions” but the only question I can think of is – Why?

Oh no you don’t…The original ‘Battlecar Galactica’ was the ’73 Lincoln Continental I had as a senior in high school back in ’79!! It was previously owned by a realtor who enjoyed ‘the drink’ a bit too much…Other than the roof, it didn’t have a straight panel on it!! Paid $400.00 for it and sold it for the same 7 months later!!

Just because something can be done doesn’t mean it always should be.
This is absurd for $4000.00 or anywhere near it. Pass.
Surely there was a subset of the buying public who were not satisfied with the lower level GM wagons from Buick and Oldsmobile so I can see how this would appeal to an affluent buyer who wanted a wagon. Bear in mind, Elvis owned a Cadillac wagon which was a nice looking ride, the pillarless style of being based on a Deville vs Fleetwood lending to more aesthetic lines. This one on eBay looks to have been a similar yellow shade. Thankfully, neither one was brown or had woodgrain appliques.
The seller wouldn’t be able to answer the amount of questions I would have.
It kooks like a homebrew effort, not a coachbuilt example. I do like the way it looks. Too bad they didn’t finish the job.
I think the clean roof without any sign of welding, and how well it integrates into the fenders makes me think coachbuilt rather than home made.
