Seller’s Description: 1969 Alfa Romeo 1750 Spider Duetto Osso Di Seppia Roundtail Spyder Barn Find
I bought this 10th Alfa / second 1969 1750 Duetto Spider / Convertible AR1480706 in 2012 from a Dude in Virginia who had it stashed in his barn. It had a perfect original nose and a solid body. 1st original nose I’d seen in many years… unlike the current Duetto I had. The story from the owner went like… the engine had been rebuilt by Sperry, balanced and blueprinted, no expense spared… and repainted in the quasi ruby color (you see) over the original white then parked in his barn for reasons of family bickering. As Alfisti-ism requires, there’s a kluge or more, a second ignition along the bottom edge of the instrument panel… estimated it was a work around for a busted ignition and the car was repainted over original white. All the usual parts seemed present and the body and bumpers were good so it was both a good donor and or restoration candidate in Alfa context. I bought it, and then parked in for the summer at my friend’s farm in North Carolina… outside… on the road level flat with his other vehicles overlooking a little gully.
Alfas.
It rolled into that gully one random day a month or so later and pushed a part of its face in, driver-side stainless bumper, grill connector, and all… as you can see. The valve cover is with a friend in Washington which is where the car is titled now… as the car sits in yet another barn in North Carolina. Fun. The odometer looks to be original as the car was purchased previously in 1996 with 80,889 miles on it suggesting it was driven only 416 miles from 1985 until 2012… oof. That all said, the car is sold in as-is condition. Checking to confirm the tires will hold air… they did in 2018. It does roll. The car, valve cover, ashtray lighter, air canister and other bits & bobs & papers go with the sale and are included in the price… questions about the car will take time to answer as my buddy in North Carolina is a rancher/busy… will post a pic of the trunk, jack points, floors, and top as well. The car is/will be for sale in the usual ad places too so could be disappeared before the conclusion. Winter is Coming. Buyer to arrange shipping, car sold as is…. will either overnight WA title to my friend in NC to have ready with the car or to the buyer (my expense)… the few extra parts to be shipped are on me too.
