Seller’s Description: 1971 Lincoln MK III
This massive coupe, with a hood long enough to land small aircraft on, was built at the Wixom, MI plant in 1971. It was delivered to the Boston distribution office and sold here in CT. The current owner grew up in love with “Lyndon”, the name his aunt had given the car, after her favorite president. He used to ride in it and loved the power of the big V8, the green leather seats and peering down that enormous hood. His aunt moved down south many years ago and took Lyndon with her. Roughly 15 years ago, in speaking with his aunt, she mentioned that she felt it was time to sell the big MK III. He offered to buy Lyndon on the spot and went down to the Carolinas to pick him up. On the way home he noticed some noises coming from the brakes and engine. But boy did he look good. She had had the car repainted just a few years earlier in the original Dark Vintage Green color.
Upon getting the car home he dug in and found some issues. He replaced the front wiring harness, had the brakes done and eventually pulled the engine and transmission and had them rebuilt. The engine/trans was dropped back in about 5-7 years ago, he thinks 5000 or less miles are on both. The odometer shows 63,000 miles. He purchased some extra trim pieces and was in the process of doing a rolling restoration when life got in the way and now after a couple of years of hardly taking Lyndon out, he’s decided it’s time to sell him on to a new home.
Lyndon is equipped as most Lincolns are… to the hilt (at least for 1971). This 2 door hardtop MK III coupe has the matching vinyl roof, Dark Green leather seats, power windows, seats, brakes, steering, windows and locks, retractable/flip door headlights, full gauges to monitor the 460 4 bbl vital signs,, Cartier clock, rear seat heat/defrost, interior specialty lights, auto-temp control/AC, headliner mounted warning lights, three point seat belts and Lincoln’s own Sure Track braking system.. the earliest form of ABS.
The 460ci engine runs VERY strong, shifts well and puts the 365 hp/485 lb ft to the ground via a C6 3 speed auto transmission and an open 2.8-1 differential.
This car is truly a joy to get out and pilot. Acceleration is felt in your neck and seat of pants and due to the high gearing will easily take this car upwards of the speedometer’s limits.
With all the handsome power that Lyndon exudes, he does have some warts though. The car is 50 years old and has some nicks and chips in the paint. Some of the chrome isn’t perfect with some small pitting, the power seats are working intermittently, some positions working better than others, the rear window motors’ gears are stripped so the back windows don’t go down and the AC belt is not in place. It’ll need an update to R134 or find someone who still has the original R12.
Despite those few issues, this car still looks great and will be surrounded by adoring fans when taken to the cars and coffee/cruise nights… When was the last time YOU saw one, in the French Connection?
With all that Lyndon has going for him, the asking price is $12,500.
Any questions, for many more photos and video, to schedule a time to see him in person or to make an offer, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Thank you for the interest.
