Clean Project: 1959 Edsel Ranger

Disclosure: This site may receive compensation from some link clicks and purchases.

After an extensive amount of work, this sharp looking Edsel Ranger is looking for a new home. Still in need of some minor work, this Ranger seems like a fair deal for the current bid price of $3,600. Check it out here on eBay out of Lake Worth, Florida. Thanks to Ikey for this rock solid submission!

Little information is given, but the Y block engine looks brand new. I would assume it has been rebuilt, or at least cleaned and painted.  A new transmission has been fitted as well as an exhaust, and fuel tank. I would think with some time spent buttoning up this Edsel that you would be left with quite a nice runner. One drawback the seller mentions is that an oil pan gasket is needed.

The interior is quite original and isn’t too shabby, but appears as a bit of a letdown compared to the “like new” exterior. The original upholstery is still in place but is in need of work. The door panels are reasonable, but the lower portions are faded and discolored. The dash and steering wheel also suffer from discoloration as well. I would dare to say once the mechanicals are sorted, that you would be tied up with making the interior match the exterior.

The exterior of this Edsel is quite sharp, and has been repainted as of recently. The wire wheels are an interesting, but look quite at home on this machine. The new dual exhaust is quite visible with its chrome tips. From what I can see, the bright work all looks very acceptable and complete. Also there appears to be no visible damage, and the underside of this Edsel is very clean. With little time remaining, this Ranger could very well end up selling for a great deal. Are you a fan of this slick looking Ranger?

Seems to me the engine, trans, and paint alone cost more than $5000.

Neat looking old car and seems reasonably priced. While I like the look ok would wonder about the wheels on a car like this. They appear to be from a 35 ford could be wrong but if so my concern would be if they wuld tae the pressue wheels from that time vintage and age I would be afraid the spokes would simply be old and under engineered for the weight of that car along with the stress of what may or may not be radial tires and the weight and pressure would possible make the wheels flex and wobble in time making a bad and unsafe driving expierenc. Lots of difference in weight and engineering from 35 until 59 But I am not an engineer and they may be modern wheels. Like the appearance.

Yes those do look like the wheels for a 35 Ford, however I think these have quite a few more spokes. A closeup of one of the wheels would have been helpful but the Ebay ad is lacking that detail.

The rims are Kelsey Hayes remakes from the 50s. Im the current owner of the car and it’s still on it. Planning to buy the original rims.

You will probably lose coolant if you don’t put an upper radiator hose on the thing.

Might be an idea to put a radiator in it before trying to add coolant

With as fancy as the outside is, I doubt that plain vinyl front seat is original.

Why do people insist on putting dual exhaust on these old cars which looks like a pair of big trombones sticking out the back?
