The Mini Marcos is an interesting sidenote in British motorsport history, seemingly stepping into the land of giants to make a significant mark on one of the world’s biggest stages: the 1966 24 Hours of LeMans. A Mini Marcos like this one was the only British car to finish the historic race, and now you can vicariously though this competition-grade example found here on eBay in the U.K. and listed for £7,500.

Interestingly, that historic race car was stolen shortly after it raced and was only recently recovered in 2016. This example doesn’t have the same sort of provenance, but someone definitely put in the handiwork to make this an entertaining track toy: “…roll cage , bucket seats, chequer plated all underneath, number boards on side, 1275 engine with big side draft twin carbs , Dunlop period alloys, oil temp gauge, 7,000 RPM rev counter, 100 mph speedo, oil cooler and more.”

Inside, some extra gauges have been added and that is a wicked period sport steering wheel. It looks as if there are some quick shut-off switches as well. The whole car has clearly been off the road for some time as evidenced by the cobwebs that have set in, and the seller notes it unfortunately has some rust issues as a result: both subframes are rotten, and some of the glass has been damaged as well. Fortunately, much of the Mini Marcos’ construction was shared with the Mini of the same era, including the subframes.

The Mini Marcos also featured Mini-derived running gear, but it has clearly been built up a bit for competitive use. Keeping the sidedraft setup is a must, but the health of the block is a big question for the next owner. Overall, these come up fairly infrequently and the upgrades make this appealing as a vintage hillclimb car or even for track day events with groups like HSR, one of the leading enthusiast groups for historic sports car racing.
